I can tell you now, if you dump all of your points into maxing Orb throughout Nightmare, you can get away without Cold Mastery. I did, with my couple of Meteorb remakes. Frozen Orb still rolls over everything in NM with a modest +skill count, with or without Cold Mastery. I know, I'm a perfectionist, but I feel that the 1 skill point is better spent in the Fire Bolt/Mastery to boost FB - you gotta think of the end-game. Tal's Orb is at level 65, which should be around the end of NM, so you'll have Cold Mastery available even before you step into Hell. You can even have your full setup equipped in NM, IIRC you can level to 75 in NM Baal. I know because I did once... took a while.
I have rare orbs that I feel are much better than the tal's orb, so I would only use tal's orb if I had a lot more of the best of the set.

I guess, there are a few better options than Tal's Orb at level 65, but if you're building with no hard points in CM like I do and Tal's Orb is your only source of CM... then I guess I'd have to use Tal's.

Keep in mind that at level 66 you can equip the Helm, as well as already having the Belt and Orb, and then at 67 you can use the Ammy, finally at 71 you can equip the Armor, so it's not long to wait to equip the whole set. I'd use 3 pieces at level 66, because that's when the -15% Fire Res kicks in on the Orb which is one of the most important mods that we need, and why we use the Tal's set in the first place. Otherwise I'd probably stick with something like an Oculus or something.

Yeah. I only have the the orb, the helm, and one other piece(not chest, I think maybe belt), and would lose too much to swap in what tal's I have. If someone is lucky enough to have looted much of tal's set at 65-ish, I'd be kind of surprised, but there is always trading.

I'm with maiku on this, this is such a helpful post. Please, Meli? Post #13? It might help cut down on the number of "WAT METREOB GEAR??!!1" posts we get around here.

Yup, definitely the best meteorb guide (more like a mini-guide), while Sasjas old school meteorb is absolutely fine this is one step beyond, pretty much as good as it will ever get.

Example of level 90 Sorceress:

Gear:
Weapon, Armor, Helm, Amulet, Belt: full Tal Rasha's set - Orb, Helm and Armour socketed with 5/5 Fire Facets ideally
Shield: Spirit Monarch - 35% FCR, 112 mana
Gloves: Magefists - upgraded to Crusader Gauntlets (151 str req)
Rings: two Stones of Jordan
Boots: your choice, but for this I'll use Waterwalk
Switch:Call To Arms + Spirit Monarch
Charms: Hellfire Torch, Annihilus, one 8% FHR Large Charm

Stats assuming Torch and Anni are perfect (base(modified)):

DEX: 25[100]
VIT: 364[426]

Thanks alot for this guide. It is fantastic.

I am about to start a sorc and only thing I want to know is where to place my skills upon leveling. I am thinking of getting all the 1 point prereqs and putting everything else into fireball up to level 30 (1 point in meteor). Then at 30, maxing out orb, after then maxing out fireball and then meteor.

Does this sound good?

I cannot sticky single posts. Eilo really made a good quick summary for the nowadays Meteorb which does not use block. Sasjas build, though she has kept it uptodate does not give emphasis on a specific build, but wants for you to figure out that for yourself.

Eilo, can you make take the information out of this post, make your own post and i will stick this immediatly and add it to the library. People might get confused when i just sticky this post :)

This sounds a bit too high, is this number correct? If it's correct great, but are you counting synergies with +skills?
