meteorb q

(I r teh spammer)

I'm trying to get a meteorb sorc going, looking at sasja and vega's guides...

One thing is I'm finding it very hard to get started... can anyone recommend stuff that I could twink to my sorc (now lvl 12) to get her through normal?

maybe look for low lvl items that give +to fire skills like magefist. Shouldn't you max fire ball now that you're lvl 12  thats usually what i do and i can mostly get through norm fine with a merc to help me

I like to have some mf already at normal, so I would probably use the angelic rings, amulet and armor(+1skills, 75life, 50%fireres, 100%mf) probably. If you are going for 75 or more str, you could also get sigon's boots, belt and shield(50%mf, +1skills). This would allow you to have a orb and a helmet(Tarnhelm is nice with +1skills and %mf)

If you don't want mf, you could still go for sigon's shield(+1skills), tarnhelm, probably Stealth(tal+eth IIRC) breast plate(fcr,fhr,r/w) and magefists. +1skills amulet and fcr rings. The other slots(boots+belt) don't really make any great difference although r/w is nice before you can afford to teleport everywhere. Caster crafted boots could have fcr though, so they might be good for a while.

You can throw in low level caster crafted items to boost your mana/FCR etc. for Fireball-spamming if you go that route. Try to craft with that character so you don't end up with the items being too high level to use (or alternatively keep all the 'junk' crafts from your high-level characters :) )

A Leaf staff (Tir+Ral in a 2-socketed staff) is easy to make and gives a massive early game boost to fire skills. Later on you'll be wanting to replace it with an Orb/Shield combo, of course, but we're talking early game equipment here.

Only thing is, you can't equip Leaf until level 18, IIRC.

This may seem like a stupid question but have you tried meleeing with her, I meleed mine to lvl 30 and frozen orb using frost nova to freeze and slow the enemies. With a fast weapon she is quite effective, and if you use players 8 she should hit lvl 30 some time round act 3 so you shouldn't have faced too many tough baddies by that stage. I think I used the Flail for mine, but a Kalim's will is also fairly effective from what I've heard.

at level 12 full cathans set will give you life leach, a ton of mana, and have your melee damage in the 80's as well as good resistences(like it really matters)

I followed a similar method to Dave. Focusing on casting early on was simply too slow for my liking, even with + skills gear and I played my Sorc as a melee character until I hit Frozen Orb. From that point onwards levelling is something of a joke and you'll blaze your way through the rest of the game on all difficulty levels. (*cough* Until you hit the Hell Ancients, but that's another story ;))

As I recall, I played in Players 8 throughout with a full Angelic Set, Sigon's shield and boots and the gloves and sash from the Death's Set.

That might not be the optimal early game melee set-up but it was good enough to tide me over until such time as I could use better gear. I also socketed my sickle with a perfect emerald once I hit 18 for added damage but that's just me. You might not feel the need to waste a socket quest like I did.

Perhaps those with a little more knowledge of optimal early-game melee equipment could post some recommendations? That would be generally helpful for those of us who hate those necessary yet boring first 30 levels or so before we actually get to do the fun stuff with our characters.

I hate crunching numbers so it would be nice if someone else could do it for me. ;)

You can't really beat the value provided by the full Sigon's set for early melee. You need a strength of 65 to equip the whole thing, but once you've got it on you have life leech, IAS, bonuses to AR and resists, FRW, and of course the +1 skills from the shield. You even get a small amount of damage reduction (only 7 points, but that can make the difference between life and death for a melee character with low life like a Sorceress).

I've always liked to melee up to lvl 19 when I can start using "Leaf" and a "Stealth" breastplate. I have managed to shop a +3 fireball, 2 socket staff from Akara each time I've started a new sorc, which is frequently cuz I keep dying in HC. Playing on players 8 I usually reach 19 by about the time I reach the outer cloister. From there on in it's a breeze.

change for Death's Touch (weapon 10-25 Damage 4% Life steal +25-75 Cold Damage) you loose some MF but look at cold damage !

and Sigon's Gage (glove) (if you don't have enough strg +10 streng or if you want 50%MF on your boots)

and you're a killing machine
ps : 2 angelic rings of course.

if you want to do several sets at once(which i usually do) your probably better off with 2 cathan's rings and ammy giving you +20str then you can easily equip those higher req items. At low level AR is almost worthless and other items should give you all you need to hit at roughly 95%

death's set is really awesome if you can get 2 pieces on for that damage

IE. Death's sword/ash

sigon's gloves/boots/shield

then with remaining slots any combo of sigons/cathans/angelic could be cool

that's right, 2 cathan's rings & cathan mask socketed with flawed amethis will give you a +24 strengh and +12% live steel, very good at low level, but you loose 100MF.

I'm not far to make an compendium article for perfect beginner.
