Thanks - will do. What;s your view on whether to actually pt 1 or more points into CM (at the expense of FM or firbolt), given I won't have access to the gear set in Eli's post any time soon?

I've been in your position myself, and I've decided I should just bite the bullet and put the one point in CM. My +skills isn't ever going to reach level 17 any time soon anyway (which seems to be the necessary level for a hard point in CM to be a waste) and it'll have a good benefit for me right now up until the time I'm so rich I won't care anyway

Good call, I'll follow suit. Did you max fireball, then orb, then meteor? At the moment I use fireball exclusively (clvl 40) and don't miss meteor - so I'm thinking of maxing Forb next, then go back to meteor...?

What did you do?

Re: Meteorb Advice

An update on my sorc: she's is now level 76, and is in Hell Act 1 with a 28FCR Spirit Monarch and a brand new Occulus =p. Also in possession of the Tal Rasha's Helm, though finding the whole set seems to be difficult. So my question is, where do I take her now. She has some slight dmg problems in players 8 Hell, and even w/ maxed resists monsters do a lot of damage. Survivability is also a small problem, basically I have to be REALLY careful about getting out of sticky spots. Nothing too bad though. Below is my set up:

28 resis all Viper magi
28 FCR Spirit Monarch
Ravenfrost
Occulus
28 resis all magic coronet (ghetto I know)
Random FCR ring
TearHaunch
Random MF + resis glove
Telling of beads ammy

What items should I aim for now. Her backup is packed mostly w/ +resis and life charms, bringing her to 3 max resists and 64 cold in hell. Should I start aiming for fire skillers, even at the cost of life and resists? What other items should I aim for (besides Tal Rasha's, collecting that whole set seems impossible).

Thanks for everyone on their input with my sorc here, and I'm always looking for more!

Re: Meteorb Advice

A problem I've encountered as I played more: Hell monster are simply too tough, especially the cold immune rogues that can't be slowed and tear my defiance merc into shreds. Then they come at me.... how do you guys keep your merc (and yourself) alive through all this?

Try to avoid places where are rogues until you merc has decent level. With lvl85 and up those survive quite nicely. But still amp cursing rogues are bad.
For example maggot1-3 is much easier for you and merc than Pits, both can drop all items and you get nice exp from both place until you are lvl89-92.
No cold or fire immunes in maggot, so you can use both attacks. And no archers, just slow moving beetles and narrow corridor, so merc can take one monster at time. So its easy for him too.

Cold immune rogue that hit hard, then you must be doing pits or tower.
Both are hard places for merc, just tele past those rogues. Or divide herd and and take one at time. Your fireball keeps them hitrecover stage so merc can poke them quite easily.

Or just tele and shoot 2x fireball tele again and shoot. Those arrows move quite slowly, so its quite easy to avoid. Or little aggressive and faster approach. Feed bottles to merc while you shoot fireballs: like fireball, fireball, shift+1, fireball fireball shift+1 ...
If merc can leech life from monster, they usually survive quite well.

What your merc is using at the moment? Try to give him as good items as possible. You have enough killing power, now concentrate to make merc as good tank as possible.

As I said at start, those low level mercs get killed a lot. Even with good items. So tele them to safety, or tank for them. At lvl85 they survive just fine at act1-act2, but at the lvls they usually find new toy to play with, Iron maiden curse in chaos/near baal, so whole hell is tough ride for mercs.

To put it shortly they can't survive without your help, you need to feed them, tele them safety etc... whole time. Good items help a lot, but they still get killed a lot if you don't do right moves at right time.

Re: Meteorb Advice

My merc is currently using Hone Sudan (nothing socketed in it yet), rattlecage, and tal rasha's mask (until I get the rest of the set). I really like the 70% CB on him, but i guess I need to give him more defense / life mods.

Also, would running NM Baal until lvl 82ish be a good idea?

Lvl82 sounds good. You can see the decline of the experience you get, when it starts to take more Baal runs to get another level.
