Mercs n Necro's

Ive finally come back to Diablo, i just keep wanting more ;(. Anyway, if you was a Necro/Skellimacer with a Merc and your Skells do all the killing, does your Merc get full xp for that?

I read in one of the previous post' that its best to let your merc do the kills to gain full xp, but i feel it would be difficult when you have many Skells running around doing it?

What Merc would be best anyway for a Skellimancer? Or a Paladin as well..

Ive always used the Act2 NM Mercs mind,. but this was mainly for my Barb

In terms of the merc getting experience, (correct me if im wrong) he gets the same experience if you or your skels kill a monster, but if he kills it he gets more. Generally merc exp is only a problem early on, ive never had a problem leveling my merc in NM or hell. Of course ive only used might mercs in NM and hell, but thats another story.

Hands down the might merc is the merc for the skellimancer. There really isnt another merc that can match how he adds to your skels killing power.

For a paladin (im assuming zealot/venger and not hammerdin), the might merc is probably still the best choice. However it isnt nearly as lopsided here, as there are arguments for a HF A2 merc, a barb merc, or a cold act 3 merc.

Merc gets full experience for enemies (s)he kills.
Merc gets 1/3 experience for enemies you or your minions kill.
Merc gets 0 experience for enemies party members kill.
Merc gets 0 experience for enemies that die any other way.

I use HF on my hammerdin and he does fine. Don't worry too much about how he levels. Just resurrect him when he dies and try to keep him within 3 or 4 levels of your character. If he starts to lag, go back and let him get some kills til he catches up.

There is a leveling guide in the strategy compendium under miscellaneous that is very helpful in showing where max experience will be gained for your character. It works for mercs, too.

I use a defiance merc for my hammerdin. Insight works quite nice with hammerdins, no pots for me. My defense could go up to 20k but he still gets pounded anyway lol.
