I am currently playing a summon-necro, I was rushed into act2 of NM so that I could buy my Offensive Merc (the one with MIGHT).

Well I got him at level 3 ( I think ), and his life hasn't ever changed. He still has 40 life, is his life ever going to go up?

I have tried that kind of exploit too, surely it goes up, not sure when, but around lvl30-40 they start to survive. Those are quite useless before lvl20, as they have too low life to survive.
I went back to other merc and rehired might merc later. Dead merc=useless merc :yes:

I have been reading the forums for a while, I just never post anything..... I heard it was better to get them lower so that they are stronger in the end..... if his life goes up I will continue to lvl him .... but its TAKING FOREVER

They have same life later, whenever you hire it. So you can change merc/re-hire when ever you like. No penalties, just remove items before re-hiring.
So you can now hire for example act3 merc and use it 10 levels and then re-hire that might merc again.

Same goes if your merc lvl is way below you char lvl, better remove items, and rehire him, to get him 1-3 lvls below you char lvl.
For example, if you char is lvl35, and your merc is lvl17, rehire him to get him lvl32-34 rightaway. He still have same life and other mods at end game.


It was different story maybe 4-7 years ago, when you needed to lvl your merc. Now, just re-hire, much easier.
