Merc Weapon for Hammerdin

I was thinking, having redemption to quickly recover mana, I probably don't need an insight as I don't have an enigma. Do you guys think a Reapers Toll would be my best bet here? Or do you still think insight makes the most sense?

If you're not going to use insight you also get the benefit of being able to use another merc, not an act 2 one. Act 1 rogue with Ice Bow is a fantastic merc for a hammerdin: everything will move really slow because of holy freeze and casted novas, and she will not die to iron maiden.

I would love to do Ice, but if I could afford that I'd buy an Enigma first. I need the act 2 for the HF. Knowing this what would you recommend?

hammers do magic damage so decrep is only going to give you the dbl'd slowing effect thanks to holy freeze. i'd generally say insight is more important so you don't have to bother with popping redemption out.

Well, if I find I that I really feel more comfortable with a full red bulb so I pop redemption rather often anyway and my mana is high enough that I haven't run out yet while spamming hammers (at least not until they are all dead :p). I ran with insight on, and I still use redemption almost as much, and I just feel that there has to be something he can use that would be more useful to me, I just can't figure it out.

Is there a weapon I'm overlooking for my merc that would be both cheap and more effective?

For my HF A2 Merc I usually use Arioc's Needle Hyperion Spear with Amn. It's really cheap, and he can usually tank most places in Hell. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but a cheap option.

Cheap in runes, great damage, a lot of CB (which you lack as a hammerdin), resist, even lower reqs so you can put it in a Colossus Voulge.

Lots of chance to cast Orb to slow things even further, low requirements, good AR... I'd prefer Obedience any day myself, though.

Hmmm, totally forgot about Obedience. I thought CV's only got 4 sockets? This probably does make sense. I'll have to try it out and report back. So far I've been pretty happy with the Reaper I got, and the decrep makes Big D laughably slow. He barely gets off a single hose of lightning before he's dead. I don't see the big advantage of using Rift over a Reaper honestly, and that Gul can buy a lot of extra gear.

You're right about the CV, I'm sorry. :) You might still be able to use the polearm of your choice just a few levels sooner than without the -reqs, though. ;)
