So, I've seen this question debated in countless threads on different forums, but I haven't really seen much but people contradicting one another.
I play 1.13d, and I'm wondering whether mercs hired at lower levels end up being more powerful than mercs hired later on. In my case, this question doesn't really have to do with what difficulty level they are hired at (I'm settled on my Act 2 NM merc), but my question is, does it make a difference whether I hire him as soon as I get to Act 2 NM?
I’m asking because I might like to switch mercs at a certain point: for example, if I hire the Holy Freeze merc when I’m at a low level for a more conservative approach, and then want to switch to a Might merc if I discover my character doesn’t need the freeze at level 80 or so, will the Might merc be a much squishier one than if I’d just hired him at a low level and leveled him up?
Again, I know this question has been covered many, many times, but I’ve never seen it answered in such a way that I was sure who was right, and I some of these threads I’m finding are old, so I wasn’t sure if things had changed in a later patch.
I've come to know the members here are very knowledgeable, and so I'll take you guys' word for it if you give me an answer. When I see a 6 year old thread of two people debating, it's hard to know which forum member had more knowledge than the other!
