Merc gear

I have become wealthy due to some fortunate circumstances, therefore I would like to equipe my merc with a bramble. I know he can wear it. I also want him to wear a BoTD polearm but am not sure if he can. I believe I've read somewhere that mercs can't wear certain runeworks.

Thanks;

A merc can wear any Runeword provided s/he can equip the chosen equipment. A BotD Polearm can be used on Act2 mercs without a problem. My friend has several on his various mercs. :)

An act2 merc can wear both BotD and Bramble, provided you make the BotD in the right kinda weap, of course. I dunno about mercs not being able to wear certain rw's... I do know that things like delirium's ctb's and that kinda stuff don't work on them, but then again, it's not like I know everything (there, the cat's out of the bag now :innocent: ).

Then its decided:D The merc is getting a gift of Bramble Armor, BoTD polearm and some sort of helm... he has a 7/7 gaze.. any suggestions for his helm?

Thanks;

A cham rune for CBF, or perhaps an IAS jewel (2nd attributes are always welcome) depending on the polarm you make botd out of.

Alright, thanks Necrochild313. What helm should he get as a get. I have an Andarial's Visage or the Gaze...

gaze should be fine for the leech

guilhame's face (sp?) is nice for curshing blow, since botd already has leech

I've already got him setup: Andarial's Visage for insane leech. Crypt something pole until I get the BoTD(will be in my account's hands SUnday) and some unique armor(I forget which)until Bramble is in the grasp of my account also.

BTW: I don't need CB... my skellies already pwn Baal in about 60-90 seconds and Meph in under 20 :D PWNING at its best.

If you can afford a BoTD ... then you should attempt to try out DOOM. I've experimented with both and I liked DOOM better. If you are going to Bramble things you might as well give the poison a chance to work longer/more effectively. Holy Freeze is awesome. Of course, BoTD is no slouch neither ...

Delerium is a bad idea for a necros merc :(

All those overriding curses are teh devil
I agree, I don't want my might merc turning into one of those little spazs. The override curses are a pain also. Therefore I will NOT let him have a Delirium. He can keep his Andariel's Visage- his res is still maxed in hell :D. I also will not use Doom because of the holy freeze Aura. I will however use the Bramble specifically fore the Thorns. Imagine; Thorns+ Might + BO= Godly skeletons :worship:

I will not equipe my merc with a Doom, BoTD is the one for him.

Thanks everyone;

Just let your merc equip the DOOM after you raise your army first. After that your army should be in good shape and you will always have corpses leftover somewhere to replace minions if you need to. DOOM will make quick work of monsters being raised by Shamans etc. You will kill as fast or faster and be much safer while you are at it.

Your army will be safer because of the freeze effect allowing them to hit more than they get hit.

You can also choose not to go for max block if you don't want to and use your stat points either for vita or dex if you ever get something like BEAST so you can hit stuff and activate the crushing blow of BEAST while the Fanaticism makes your army go apesh*t all over the enemy.

From what I hear (I don't have to worry about these things), the holy freeze causes a significant number of corpses to shatter. That will slow down your killing speed significantly, since shattered corpses cannot be exploded.

Even more so in larger games, where you need more corpses to explode (corpse explosion damage does not scale up with the number of players, but the monsters life scales up...)

Well that's assuming everybody's based on your necromancer with great reliance on corpse explosion. I work with [amplify * might * (skeletons + merc)] + holy freeze + bone spear. It seems to kill as fast, if not faster than with corpse explosion.

that's true to a varying degree.

A merc with DOOM will leave in my experience ~ 20% or less corpses. The rest are shattered.

However, that remaining percentage can be CE'd or used for raising minions. Keeping in mind that if you are twinked out with all that kind of gear then your army should be able to kill on it's own, especially if you are doing the DOOM, BEAST etc thing on hell up to players8. If you are using the marrowalk feature then you are probably spamming the bone spear to kill anyways. If you are using BEAST you are getting into the fray and whacking away anyways. If you are using both marrowalk and BEAST then you're doing both!

There should be some corpses around for CE if you need it.

On the other hand, if you are more of a pure summonerexploder then DOOM probably won't be your first choice. Something like BoTD, Bonehew, upped Hone Sundan etc will be a better choice.

IMO, Eth Tomb Reaver is the best merc weapon due to lower requirements, still good damage and speed. Add in Res and MF... looks alot sexier.
