Merc for PvM Windy

Yes, I have searched the Forums for this question, and yes, I've found an answer: Use Holy Freeze merc. But my question is, will HF merc really give much more help, I mean, I will be having Hurricane active all the time. I know it will freeze even the Cold Immunes, but wouldn't a Defiance be pretty cool?

As for equip I will give him Reapers and probably tals Mask and Treachery or (if I go with Defiance) an eBugged Stone.

This will be used for general PvM and some MF'ing.

thx in adv.!

I don't think the base defense of a human druid is enough to warrant a Defiance merc. I'd choose HF (obviously), Insight/Prayer, or Might before I'd even consider Defiance.

Insight: use it on a Prayer merc. ALWAYS.
Life regen >>> defense. Life regen >>> Holy Freeze when you've got hurricane.

Even against cold immunes it's not worth it giving up the huge life regen for a little slow.

Reaper's: your call, but Decrep + hurricane + HF = uber slow.

If you're fine chugging mana pots and have the room in your inv for extras. Insight is more convenient than Reapers.

There's always "points in energy". Sacrificing massive kill power so that your mana run out is not worth it. Sacrificing a small bit of life so that your mana run out, is.

mana potions drop often enough so you don't have to gather them in your inventory. and i've never put any points in energy even without insight. i'm used to popping those pots every once and a while, doesn't bother me at all. reapers definitely gets my vote.

Well, I am pretty much made up about the weapon allready, and the question I was asking was what kind of merc. Since HF is "slow monster" and not cold dmg chill, will it stack against non cold immunes? Affected by both HF and Hurricane will it be slowed more than with just one of them? If so I will get a HF merc...

good point about the low defence on a human Druid, my thoughts where more to get a bigger tank in my merc.

Thx for the replies!

Normal defensive is an excellent choice for all classes depending on your equipment; for example, one of my sorcs who uses it goes from 1.8k def base (griffons, upped viper, spirit shield, arach, eth treks, trang gloves) to 7k def when it's turned on. A windy will typically have similar defense as they use pretty much the same gear, a bit higher with a good jalals and enigma. This usually decreases enemies' chance to hit me by around 30% (around halving it usually in a4/5 hell) at lvl 94. As windy's have no armour boosting skills they will benefit more than most other classes. Not worth it at low levels perhaps, by 90s you'll see a huge difference. Nevertheless I'd opt for holy freeze on a windy due to the way they often stand within melee distance of large groups of enemies relying on fhr lock from nados; hurricane and freeze stack nicely to ensure they'll never get an attack in so whether those attacks hit shouldn't be an issue. Decrepify, hurricane and holy freeze all stack beautifully.

PS:Reaper's owns insight totally.
