Merc for hammerdin

Hey guys i built a very good hammerdin, but im missing a merc. Right now i can solo any part of the game except maybe maggot lair which i would just quit out of frustration so i see that there really isnt a point to geting a merc. It might make it easier and I need a reason to play so which should i get. i was thinking holy freeze but im not quite sure. Any input is very much appriciated.

I xchanged my holyfreezer merc to a defiance one , the freezer seem to leave many monsters as icecubes makes my redemtion less effective (icecubes even when killed by me).

If u need some more "killpower" in maggots i suggest either a Baba or a mightmerc... both does tons of dmg with your aura

Yeah I agree with Pisken. Redemption is one of my most used auras and frozen corpses just nullify its effectiveness. Anyways, hammerdin with a defiance merc and Holy Shield should hit 15k defence (Merc brings my 11k defence to 16k). High defence and 75% block makes you pretty invulnerable to physical attacks. As for Maggot Lair, don't even bother if you don't have Enigma. Even though he shouldn't die, the merc will still take a while to kill all the mobs. Not to mention all the twists and curves of the Lair to make your merc go crazy in stupidity--then get lost... leaving you the timeful opportunity to go back and gently lead him to where you're going, or waiting for him to respawn by your side (assuming you don't have teleport from Enigma).

Yes.... i have one right now , lvl 85'ish with most gear self found (only the wiz and a great rare KurastShield i found with my Blizzsorc tranfered from other chars) ... i dont even have an Harlequin yet (still using my Lore runeword hat)

Lol? I can't even get past Baal minions in a 3 plyr NM game (me by myself, I just jacked a game). My res are +50, fire is 75, so is cold, using Stealth armor and some other mid lvl unique's but cant hack it. Hammers only 4k dmg (about 5 more points to max BA and that's it) so I'm like, wtf?

Firstly I would exchange that Stealth for a Vipermagi.

I like the HF merc. I equipped him 2X amn'ed Bonehew, Glad Bane, and Tal's Ugly. He got me through the maggot lair even before I got Enigma, it is a lot easier with the Enigma. He also took care of the wailing beasts for me. Right now for mf he's wearing Tal's armor, HC shako, and the Bonehew. I need to find him a Tomb Reaver for him.
