I'm planning on start playing a melee necromancer, here's more or less what I have in mind for the build... it's gonna be a zealot necro using a passion pb... the equipment is gonna be quite modest, I cannot afford an enigma (not even a fortitude for my paladin yet), so I'm already expecting to have a hard time playing this char...

Equipment:

Weapon - Passion phase blade
Shield - Stormshield 470 dfs (socketed with +15ias/+x ed jewel or shael)
Helm - Andy's (+2 to zeal and life leech)
Armor - Duress (best I can afford, 15% crushing blow is helpful)
Boots - Gores (crushing blow)
Belt - I still don't have but I'm gonna need Arachnid Mesh for the +1 to zeal
Amulet and rings - Angelics (AR)
Gloves - I don't have anything appropriate, I'll be using Trang's or Venom Grip until I get something better (Draculs maybe?) Laying of Hands (IAS, extra dmg to demons)

plus a bunch of +res, life, skill and ar charms (and if someone has a low necro torch to trade for a 10-17 zon torch I could use that too), plus a 11-10 ntorch

Skills:

Well, I'm planning not to use bone armor, it's already a pain to have to recast it everytime your summoner gets hit, now imagine if you're zealing the monsters instead of keeping a distance from them behind your minions... and since I'm not using bone armor I don't need other bone skills for sinergies and I'll not use them at all, not a fan of bone wall or bone prison...

Max golem mastery and +1 golem for a decent tank and I will spend some points on skeles and revives, I have a couple of +1 summoning skills gc that might be helpful... summoning is not gonna be the focus, but I don't hope to survive without it and without bone armor and bone wall.

Points on all main curses, decrep, life tap, dim vision, amplify and so on...

Other than that I'm going with corpse explosion and maybe poison nova too, the poison dmg can be a good help to kill the monsters with zeal...

I would like to hear any opinions, suggestions and thoughts about it, most melee necros seem to resort heavily on bone armor and bone skills, I don't know if anybody has tried to survive without them and if it is possible at all...

Laying of Hands, I forgot about it, found on the commandomancer guide... I guess it's a better choice since it has some ias...

I also found Silks of the Victor yesterday, it's good for +1 skill (together with andys and arachnid I would get 5 zeal points, 5 hits per strike), but I don't know if it's worth losing other mods and much higher defense I would get from Duress

It's kind of a command build I'm planning to play, but I don't want to max raise skele...

I was playing a summoner right before the last ladder reset and with 30 summoned minions the game was already laggy, it was ok cause I rarely had to use potions and stuff, but it's not gonna be the case with a melee char... I wish I could go without any skeles at all, but I know I'm gonna need some of them at least... still, the fewer the better

and that's why I want to spend more than 1 point in CE and maybe a few in poison nova...

PS: I managed to trade my ztorch for a necro torch, a very low one, 11-10, but it's gonna be a good help even like this, especially the +3 skill :)
