Melee Sorc Build questions

Hi, some questions about a Dream/Dream melee sorc build.

Skill Allocation:
Currently I have:
20 Warmth
20 Enchant
20 Fire Mastery
20 Lightning Mastery

For the rest of the skill points, I was thinking prereqs + 1 static/teleport. Where is a good place to put remaining points? A cold armor? Tstorm? 1 in ES/rest in Telekenesis? - This char will be used for both PvM and PvP.

Stats:
Haven't used any stats yet. Will I need additional dex to be able to hit things, or will the Enchant bonus + whatever gear I have be adequate (thinking Beast + 5 Shael 1 Eth PB switch)? And even if I don't need dex, is it worth putting enough in for max block?

After that, should I pump vit? or energy if I am going to use ES.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Melee Sorc Build questions

I put the remainder of my skill points in cold armor on my char.

Since you didn't max TK do not put stat pts into energy. With warmth maxed you'll be able to teleport around no problem without running out of mana (that is of course if you have a good cta on switch).

You're gunna want points in dexterity, but you should not go for max block. It's damn near impossible with a troll's nest dream and you'll have no more points to put into vita.

What I did with my vita dual dream sorc was go do baal/ubers a bunch and I kept putting a couple more pts into dex until I could hit them consistently. Then I just put the rest in vitality.

I would also recommend a passion PB for zeal. You can reach a pretty decent ias bp and have enough leach to stay alive without one of those shael'd pb's

and pssh... you say you're gunna use a melee sorc for pvp? Keep dreaming (no pun intended). You'll never be able to hit a paladin with an exile, let alone most barbs. Keep this guy strictly for PvM. Get a nice eth infinity, an eth dream helm, and a CoH on a A2 holy freeze merc and you'll run show. If you try to PvP you won't hit anyone and your merc (which you WILL die without in PvM) will just get killed in 2 seconds.

Hmm.. Is it worth having 1 point in Tstorm since I'll have maxed light mast and +light gcs anyways? or will the dmg still be negligible and the point better spent elsewhere?

And what if I put the rest of my points in TK (probably won't be maxed, but close to it)? Then is it worth getting 1 in ES?

Re: Dex, would it be worth going for max block if I am using a Hyperion (gets 3os, 4% higher base block than Troll Nest) and something with +block like GA?

For weapon, I plan on using Beast to go bear form, so I won't be able to use Passion for Zeal.

I can afford dropping the PvP hopes, it's my first attempt at a melee sorc so I don't know it's full use yet. Considering I will be going full PvM then, would it even be worth getting ES (mana burn would make me vulnerable fast)?

Using GA would be the only reasonable way to go for max block. If you're using a CoH don't even try. It's not worth it.

Put a point in Tstorm. It's useful. I do like 800 dmg with mine. With an infinity merc it helps more than you think.

I've never really been a fan of ES and the fact that you're gunna be using bear form is even more of a reason to not use it. With a high CTA in wearbear form you're gunna have a ton of life. I'd go the vita route if I were you, especially since you can't max tk. Plus mana burn in PvM is annoying as hell.

Agree completely with Martian.

I've decided to gone Vita as well and it's working great. I haven't gotten my Beast yet so I'm still running around with a Passion PB but everything is dying nice and quickly. Mana Burn isn't annoying anymore because I hardly rely on it, and even with 1 pt Shiver armor my DEF is into the 5k mark.

I would recommend increasing Shiver armor (to my knowledge, it's the one that gives the most +defence bonus) especially if you do decide to go Vita. I gave up on blocking long ago and just got enough STR to wield the PB.

As for TS, my Light Sorc does a nice 1.2k with only 1 point in it and a bunch of +skills. It's a nice skill for annoying pesky monsters who like to run around, and you don't even have to do anything!

Thanks for the replies.

So: pump vita, not energy, and don't bother with ES/TK. So with the points I have left, I should put 1 in TStorm and the rest in a Cold armor?

And don't bother trying to hit max block, so I guess I'll stick with a troll nest (found a 15ed/12dur sup one yesterday :D) for the shield.

Does CoH make a significant difference when compared to GA or any other armor? (It's obviously good, but GA has advantages too)

CoH for me (without Enchant) adds about 2k max damage, throws my resists into the high 50s and 60s in hell (I haven't done any Anya quests yet) and gives a lot of nice defensive and offensive mods. I'm pretty sure GA is only useful if you decide for block, but for any other build, the mods on CoH should outweight GA.

I actually like es, with maxed warmth, es is pretty effective, just put 1 point into es, and the rest to telekinses. I also agree with TS, I put 1 point in, and it's working pretty fine.
For the cold armor, just 1 point into it is plenty. And just like Rassler, I'm going to have to say Coh is better, think about it this way, so may be you wont have better blocking, but with +2 skills, that's a lot more dmg; not to mentioned teh res. what's good with +max res (from GA) if you cannot max it out?
