Melee necro

Hi . Ive never played necros and figured I should try out something to see if its viable.

a melee necro.
skills in curses like LT and weaken and one hell of a gear set up for IAS +skills etc...

anyone tried this?? is it a viable build?

Ive seen a sorc melee rather well but have yet to see a necro melee.

weaken is good for low level dueling, also for the thorny necro (you like to call it matadore), but yeah other than those two instances it's preaty lame.

I do not duel, so I did not know that it had a use there.

The Matador (originally thought up by Patsy :worship: way back then) wants as much damage as possible. Not less. I found it counter productive.

You can use it in combo with an IG made from Hwanin's Refuge. This way the Static will trigger as often as without any curses, but your IG will life that much longer.

What I should have said is that Weaken is useless for most people. Only a few weird builds use it.

well I've built a few Matadores (i've always called em Karmamacers, just my own little pet name) and I assume the guide you talk of boosts IM and huge HP Bone Armor???

Mine have always relied on thorny items (P skull shields, Siucide Branch, Razortail , Amns in armor and helms,etc) since I want to get hit I don't want to slow the hits down so weaken is better, I get decent DR with it without slowing the hits down. Also the thorny damage from items is affected by Amp, and I don't think they get the PvP penility either, been hit by a few pker's with this set up and after one hit and they dont get through the BA they tend to log, but I've seen level 20 assassins dropped to about 1/4 (1.09) heath bar with a level 25 nec with this gear (p skulled shield, 7 amn armor) if only I woulda amped instead weakened (though I might have decrepted not sure, its been awhile).

When Patsy wrote down the Matador concept IM was still viable and BA needed to be pumped in order to have any effect. The rest of the items were all up to the user, with the exception of the armor. You need to get the feared Red Pantsâ„¢. Usually I went with a mix of +life and thorny damage.

I've tried the 7 Amn + 4 pkulls (a pally shield of thorns) gear and was very very disappointed in it for PvM.

The basic problem is that the monsters have to actually hit and damage you. And when they do, you lose life. And once you get into Nightmare, you lose a lot of life.

And then you have the 'Thorns dilemma' - I think a Thorns Pally is a great choice for beating the game the first time (if you just want to play hardcore). But you have to do it in classic, not expansion, because there are too many ranged attackers in Act 5, and they will chew you up and spit you out.

Idea: Weaken + Damage Reduction Gear
Concept, make something similar to the Damage Reduction Energy Shield Sorcs?
But then of course... why use Weaken instead of Decrepify?
Possible Answers:
Cheaper (mana and skill points)
Bigger Radius
Longer Duration

Of course, with Decrepify you could always use a lvl 20+ Dim Vision to start with, then 'wake up' a small section of the crowd...
