Maybe OT: screen flicker with D2

This just started today, when I play D2 the screen flickers every so often. It doesn't flicker in windows. It's a laptop screen. Any ideas as to what this could be?

more info needed

Are you using a Mac? What OS? Also, do you have the game set for OpenGL or software mode (or RAVE in OS 9), and are you playing in 640x480 or 800x600 resolution?

Sorry, when you wrote "It doesn't flicker in windows." I thought you meant the laptop used something other than Windows.

Can't help. Good luck, though.

No, I meant when it was in Windows, not a full-screen game or something, it doesn't flicker.

I just ran D2 to see exactly how often it flickers, and it ran fine, which is good, but very odd. Hope it stays fixed. I wonder what was wrong before?

A lot of times, when people get monitor flickering, it is due to the refresh rate not being sync'd with the program, so you get flickering, tearing, generally bad FPS. Solution, restart the computer, that will fix it 9 times out of 10, if the program worked fine before. If it didn't work before, you would want to check the video settings to see if you can set the program to sync to refresh rate.

(btw, it is refered to as windowed mode when it is not full screen and running in a window, just so you know :D)

I have heard of a problem with some graphics cards that causes similar problems when they get to hot. My brother had a problem where the colours where the screen flickered and then the colours got screwed up. After turning off the computer for a while it went back to normal. Don't know if this could be related but in a laptop it seems possible.

there's also this annoying short duration freezes. For solution, I don't keep the CD in my driver after starting the game (though I never witnessed it in my new machine).

hijack: how do you play in windowed mod?

Go into the properties of your Diablo II shortcut, and add -w on the end of the target, like this:

"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" becomes "C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w

End of hijack :D

I had the short duration freezes as well when I first started to play LOD (1.10) on my old desktop (W98). The problem was caused by the sound options. The solution was either to enable or to disable the hardware acceleration option. I can't remember which one it was. :)
Took me a while to figure that one out!

On the desktop, running Office, using IE, etc that's what I meant by 'in Windows'.

This is clearly some spam. Windows seven was released in 2009 but thread is from 2005. ;)

Yes, yes, I'll click on the link to get a windows 7 fix!
