    maxing block

ok sooooooooooo....... how do you calculate that you have max block? i think i read that u have to constantly put points in (aka you're going to need more in dex at lvl 80 for max block than lvl 40). is this true or no? and again either way, how do you tell when u have max block?

You hover your cursor over the "defence" space in your char screen. If you wear a shield, you see "chance to block: xx%" When you add points to dex, the xx rises. When its 75%, you have max block. This is best to do with your end game shield.
And if you dont have it, you can calculate it with a formula. Found here:

There is also a blocking calculator. I have PMd the link to you. A number of sorceress guides tell you what block you need at which levels for certain shields.

so say for a ss on a nec, using that calculation, at lvl ** i'd need 213 dex. is this correct?

yup :) sad thing...but a high dex is needed to maintain resonable block and for most classes is around 220, with the exception of a pally (one of their strengths)

ya it does kind of bite lol. wouldn't it mean if i fail to block a melee attack i'm as good as dead cause of low vita? well i guess not so much considering the dam. reduction on ss, which i'm 99.9% positive counts towards phys. hits even if i don't block

Yes, the DR from Stormshield will reduce all physical damage you take.

Yeah, it would so much better if you didn't that dex. And if nothing had str reqs. And if they just removed all the stats except vit, that would be awesome. You'd have like, huge life then.

ya...not to mention that due to the block animation, you really aren't able to block 75% of all the attacks that hit you :p

However, for some builds (sorcs) max block can be a lifesaver when your tele-ing...it gives you that extra second to recover and tele out of the pack (hit recovery is alot slower for sorcs than block recovery, can't remember the numbers tho)

still, I've use block on quite a few chars and i have never had any negative results...but prob just IMHO
