Max Block on Caster Characters

Yes, but thats not a problem if you don't teleport into monster packs...I don't :)
You've never made that mistake ever? You must be very conservative. I do it at least once a night. When I want to port my way to Durance3 I don't want to have to worry about sissy p3 monsters in my way. I have faith in my FCR. When that fails me, I pray to my block%, offer libations to the D2 gods in the form of 2 or 3 rejuvs and hope I didnt just port into a pack of cursed mobs.
Even during fights I'll make that mistake. Sometimes I like to get an up-close and personal look at where my meteor is going to land.

Well considering I'm a fan of max blocking 25% of attacks only hitting is very nice. And agreeing to Kaelor some magic attacks can be blocked. Caster chars who need max block in my opinion is Sorc, Druid(Fire and Wind as most good spells you have to get close), Necro(Poison) maybe trap assassin but that would spend lots of points in weapon block. But I do agree that all melee chars need block. Well I like every char of mine to have max block I'm a pansy behind a shield. :scared: . lol

Run Meph indeed. I could have sworn tonight that I 'blocked' his cold ball. I got the sway to one side animation and the ball did nothing to me. You can also block bone spirits from what I've experienced, so it's not only physicals. Some elemental/magic ranged attacks can also be blocked.
As long as there's a physical component, an elemental attack can be blocked by a shield.

Bone Spirit however, is 100% magical, so only the Assassin can block it.

I have a nasty habit of teleporting "blind" over walls and other obstacles which can lead to some unplesant situations in which max block comes in very handy. :) Of course the other option would be to be more careful but I don't see that happening anytime soon!

Does it have to be an all-or-nothing deal? Getting around 50% blocking is much less taxing on the stat points, especially with a shield with less than superb blocking.

The only Sorceress I tried to get high blocking on was a melee Sorceress; my other caster characters didn't bother, with the exception of my hammerdin. It's very easy for a Paladin to max blocking, and I saw no reason not to.

I'm with the max-blockers as well, for basically the same reasons. If I had put all my Dex points into Vit, I'd get another 300 points of life. That doesn't seem like much of a deal to me. It would pretty much insure me against one-hit kills, but the occasional bad teleport running Durance 3, or triggering of an archer pack just off screen would certainly be deadly without blocking. Also, being a Meteorb, I tend to tele fairly close to a mob to get them huddled around my merc before a Meteor. Blocking keeps me alive there too. If I were playing a Necro or maybe a CL/FO sorc, I might be more confident that I could stay out the way.

I've also considered a No-Dex/Stormshield route - the Str investment relative to the 97 I already have is not so huge, and the remaining Vit combined with the 35% DR might make for better overall durability. But I only have one SS at the moment, and I don't feel like rebuilding the character to test it out anyway.
