Mav Hybrid?

Mav Hybrid?

So I made a fishyzon, but I tire of tossing javs and draining my mana pool in 10 seconds or less.

I've also been oh so tempted to make a Mav zon for about as long as I can remember so this is where that came from. I'm hoping to run the TC87 areas with her, mostly the pit, CS, and WSK, which is where the hybrid comes into play, in that I feel poking baal/diablo is a better plan than shooting.

I'm planning on shooting for the 9/3 strafe BP and using Tunderstrokes for switch to charged strike with.

I haven't really thought out a stat plan, but I'm generally a fan of the max vit strategy. Would it be better to go max dex? I'm sorely lacking when it comes to charms, lifers or anni/torch.

For the skills I had planned on:

20 Charged Strike
20 CS synergy, maybe LF?
20 Strafe
1 in all the P&M

From there, I wasn't really sure how much to put into valk, do I want 17 with skills or 17 hardpoits? Also, would LF be worth it? Is pumping critical strike worth it, or would they be better spent in penetrate and pierce?

As for the gear, I need another 10 IAS to hit 9/3, but I'm not totally positive as to where I want that to come from. It'd obviously be from an IAS jewel or Highlords/Cat's Eye, and I'm leaning towards one of the amulets, but as always, we'll see what happens.

Set-up

Mav's set
Switch:Thunderstrokes/SS
Rings: Ravenfrost/dual leech ring or LL/stat ring
Amulet: Highlords/Cat's Eye/Atma's/Rare ammy
Boots: I was unsure here, War Travs would be nice, but I have a thing for tri-res boots and have a few pairs I'd love to use.

I was planning on using several Max/AR charms in my inventory.

Other questions: Would putting a nef in the bow be a good idea? If I decide to get the remaining IAS for the required BP would I be better served using an ED/IAS jewel in the bow or just tossing a 15 IAS jewel in the armor or helm?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a huge amazon nub. Don't worry about answering any or all of my questions, I'm mostly just looking for critiques on this build.

I guess my main question is can the Mav's put out enough danmage to kill effectively and quickly in hell 2-4 player games with strafe?

I dont think that it has good enough dmg to kill at decent speed with Strafe.
I have a FAzon with full Mav, and Strafe for CI. But i dont feel that its good enough.
In fact, im probably gonna put my 30-40 skill points into javelins, to deal with CI.
I have no max dmg charms, i dont have alot in dex.

Have you looked at the stats for the mav's set? There is totally notting usefull for a javazon in partial mavs set. I don't think it is possible - the only reason why mav's is usefull for a frost maiden is because of the +cold skill damage on the full set and for the huge res as full set bonus. Partial mav's just doesn't cut it, not for bow, nor for javazon.

If you want a hybride, fa/strafe is the only one I see possible. And even then...

P.S. what is wrong with the gear suggested in the fishyzon guide? If I'm not mistaking, that shouldn't be much more expensive the mav's set is.

Yeah, I was looking at a damage calc and I think a punchadin can do more damage than a mav strafer :( There goes that idea. Guess I should have checked those before I posted, whoops.

@NASE, Jeez, it was just a thought. I wanted to go with the java tree on switch to deal with Baal/Diablo. I'm a big fan of CS, personally.

There is nothing wrong with the fishy guide, I like the build, I just want something different. I've found that the cold damage isn't all that good for dealing with LIs in mostly full games. Beyond that, I want to play have a character than is bowazon first, java second.

From experience (single player), i totally agree with NASE.

MAV's bonuses cry for FA as main skill.

As for the secondary skill it needs kill CI's + help refill mana bulb + keep the full set bonuses at all times, so:

using jav skills = kill CI's (good), mana intensive (bad), loose full mav's bonuses (bad) = 1 rating

using strafe = kill CI's (nothing spectacular, mav's bow base damage is bad), refills mana bulb (good), keep full set bonuses (good) = 2.5 rating

Using Mav's, i suggest FA (main skill) + strafe (secondary) build with 2 jewels of fervor in diadem/armor respectively to optimize strafe speed.

Use Act 2 Might (+ strafe damage, leech) or Prayer (sweet life/mana regen) merc equipped with eth Insight big stick (helps ALOT with mana issue), guillaume's face for CB vs. bosses, + any good merc armor you see fit (i like eth shaftstop for DR% the most). You will have to rely on your merc to kill bosses for you. Azrael must be well dressed.

Decoy + Valk are your best friends. They will save your life countless times.

Put as much as you can in dex for + strafe damage, that is, it's viable to go base vita/rest dex but i only recommend it if you have really good charms (i.e., fletcher's of vita and 20 lifers). If your charms aren't that great you'll
most likely feel more comfortable by placing some points into vitality and rest dex.

Disclaimer: keep in mind that Mav's set is for people who want a challenge or don't have the runes to make ICE like me.
