    Mature OTF?

Hey, some of the discussions which could prove to be interesting have to be filtered out by the mods because of younger users and i think this limits the fun of the forum a little :/

Perhaps if we have a sub directory that could only let people over 18 or 21 or whatever so we dont get useless spam and can express opinions without barriers as it were..
Of course i still enforce anti discrimination of all kinds but i would like to have mature conversations every now and again..

I'll respond with the same question I asked when you brought this up in the other thread.

How would you prove who's 18 and who's not?

I don't think it's necessary anyways. We still have plenty of fun without getting into extremely adult topics. And most of our conversations are in the realm of 'mature' anyways.

well, a dob is required on registration (or it was when i subscribed) a license of agreement should be confirmed aswell to let them in, of course its not going to be secure but it would be the fault of the user if they were offended etc..
Its pretty clear to see who the younger ones are and would probably be banned after a few obvious posts (if this is ok with the mods)

You could have a pop up which asks them if they're over 18. Problem solved. </sarcasm>

So I register, find out I can't get into the mature forum with my current dob, reregister and go in. You think the younger ones wouldn't want to get in there? It kind of defeats the purpose. And it's not as obvious as you think. There are a lot of underagers here I can't guess the exact age of. Which speaks well of them.

I think if you specifically have a so called "Mature Forum", it would only make the underaged people curious. Hmmmm, the Mature Forum? I bet they're all looking at porn in there !!!

well if they agree to going in then its their own fault for disobeying the rules...
The underagers that can act older would probably engage in these topics quite well (i knew quite alot when i was ~13/14) without any mishaps

    Jimmeh,
Don't get your hopes up cause it ain't gonna happen. I could give several reasons, but suffice it to say, this has been discussed in the past and the concensus is, it ain't gonna happen.

So? It's not the younger ones who would have a problem with what they would see in that forum. That wouldn't solve the problem at all. In any case, there's no feasible way to prove one's age here.

I hate to sound like the asshat here. But theoretically Jimmehs idea would work. Yes, the kids can lie and get in, but who cares. The only problem (i see) with kids reading bad stuff here is liability of the site. If the kid agrees he is over 18, but isnt....too bad. Some people may think kids shouldnt see certain things posted because they are too young, not me. I could care less what they see, my only real concern is site liability, and an agreement should solve that.

Sorry I sound like a tool, maybe my ideas will change when I have kids. But as of now I think parents should be monitoring childerns internet time anyways. Especially those young enough to worry about reading interesting stuff we talk about here.

How about everyone post in a mature manner? It's not difficult to address controversial topics without resorting to immature tactics, although you wouldn't know it here ;)

If behaving maturely is difficult for you, perhaps you should refrain from posting in that particular thread. There are lots of spam threads that welcome poop jokes and inane banter. The OTF has something for everyone. Ultimately, you have to control yourself; not depend on someone else. If you can't do that, you really shouldn't be in a social forum.

Well, maturity is only part of the problem. There are some subjects that could be discussed among adults that might be perfectly mature and civilized, but wouldnt be appropriate for some kids. But, with an over 18 agreement, we can wash our hands of this guilt ;)

If you look at threads that have been closed, it's generally not the subject matter that gets the thread closed. It's the asshattery of people who post later and can't control themselves.

Pretty much any topic is acceptable here and the ones that aren't are few and far between. But, it's moot, because as Freet said, it ain't happenin'.

I can think of 3 or 4 forums that have been born out of people from the OTF.

Also: this is a diablo 2 forum. Not the Off-Topic forum feat. Diabloii.net.

Agreed. We should be thankful to have such a wonderful forum where olbaiD talk is unwelcomed at a site dedicated to the game. I don't see the particular need to have 2. I really doubt the site wants to promote "adult" content anyway. I don't know what you can cover in an adult area that we can't cover here other than porn and crap like that. If that's what you're looking for, I'm sure there's thousands of sites out there than can accommodate your needs.
