Matriarch Zapmebaby - 200 FCR Charged Boltress (RWM)

It's been a while since I actually wrote up a mat/pat thread, so here's a basic writeup:

****
Why?
There are a couple of great guides in the stickies for a Charged Boltress (CRG's and Lira Lindriel's), but neither of those really takes RWM into account.

Looking through CRG's equipment, I realized that with my Griffon's, 20% FCR Ammy, and a perfect Spirit shield, I could use a different weapon than Wizardspike and also drop a FCR ring for my SoJ (in addition to the upgraded shield). So, I'd gain +5 skills overall, 25% Mana pool, and ~20% Lightning damage, +22 Vitality, etc. but I'd loose out on resists. The results:

Matriarch Zapmebaby
Level: 80
Life: 870 /1481
Mana: 632 / 930
Resists: 60/61/72/61

Str: 156
Dex: 25
Vit: 301
Ene: 70

Skills:
20 Charged Bolt (465 - 492 damage, 24 bolts)
20 Lightning
20 Lightning Mastery
20 Frozen Orb (445 - 466 damage)
2+ Cold Mastery
1 Warmth, Teleport, Static Field, and Prereq's

Items:
W1: Eschuta's (perfect except 15% fire, socketed with 3/-4 Lightning Levelup facet)
S1: Spirit Shield (35% FCR)
W2: CtA (+6 BO, +5 BC)
S2: Spirit Shield (35%)
Helm: Griffon's Eye (11/-17, socketed with 5/-3 Lightning Die facet)
Armor: Vipermagi (35% resist, socketed with 7%resist/+5 Energy jewel - thanks lemming)
Gloves: Magefist
Belt: Arachnids (used T'Gods while leveling)
Boots: Silkweave
Ammy: Crafted Caster Ammy (+1 Sorc Skills, 20% FCR, 10% Mana Regen., etc.)
Ring: SoJ
Ring: Rare (FCR, 11% Resists, 22 Life, 25 Mana, etc.)
Charms: 1xChilling, 3xSparking, resists/life

Notes:
- I died twice (Ancients & somewhere I was too lazy to drink a potion - don't remember where)
- Merc was a A2 Holy Freeze meat shield (Reapers, Shaft, Vamp)
- Fun to play, 200 FCR is sweet
- The Viper Temple is really the only dangerous area (those snakes are fast)
- A wall of Charged Bolts is a pretty cool thing to watch
- Hellforge was Io/Lum. Meh.
- Hell Baal sux. I think I had better drops in Normal Difficulty.
- I think Hotspurs was the most notable item I found. Thul was the highest rune.
- I actually had to reroll the Ancients a few times, and eventually I had to separate them (usually I just 'muddle' through), they were hard this time (although it's probably because I didn't have any Crushing Blow on the merc, and I forgot to use Static Field )

Questions/Comments are welcome

Hey congrats man. I've never had a CB sorceress, but I was thinking of making one. Spamming CB is just so cool.

So, where are the screenshots with uber CB spam?

:badteeth:
:duh: I just figured out how to do it because of:

the morons at Hewlett Packard designed my keyboard so that I have to hold down the function key (in the lower-left) to get the printscreen functionality (in the top-right). Two hands on the keyboard = crappy screenies. Remapping the keys solved that problem:

@YoungDbl, I have a failed experiment sorc that I'm going to push to Hellforge, then I'll probably try Zapmebaby with the Countess. I need to find/cube/trade for another Gul rune to trade with Liquid_Evil, then I'll use his jewel and continue my /players8 only FrenzyBarb...
... at least, that's the plan :wink3:

Sounds cool to me.
IMO lite sorcs are the best for countess and seeing as your bolts are that fast you shoudn't have a problem with running her. Specially with them fancy items. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next.

Yeah, I've already got the requisite CL/FO sorc for the Countess, I want to see which is actually faster though.

I just yesterday made my 200boltress a mat and do I feel the fleshback here... Almost the same equipment and skills. This just means I know how much fun you've got from her

Congrats!

I'm just too lazy to do the mat thread =/

Holy piss. I always loved playing that sorc, but I always got frustrated by my lack of FHR. RWM solves that with the spirit shield (I'm so jealous, but I refuse to go rwm.). The only problem with the build is that you need to push str to get a spirit (to 156, 98 points higher than my guide recommends). That's 196 life before BO, but I guess it was worth it. I should look at the guide again.

true, the +22 Vitality on Spirit makes up a decent chunk of that lost life though. IMO, 870 life without BO, at level 80 isn't bad for a sorc (even though I can't block).

Congrats on the Mat. Nice items too. Nice screenie I like to see the whole screen in white lightning. What's next for the Mat/Pat?

Is Spirit generally made in a Monarch shield? I would think a Blade Barrier would be equally as good (only 2% slower blocking rate), but much less strenght req.

Anyway, congrats on the build, looks like fun!

Of three 4os possible non-pally shields Monarch has the lowest strength requirement. Other two are Aegis (219str) and Ward (185tr).

Blade Barrier can have max 3 sockets

I just started my own boltress, and wondered what kind of resists did you finish the game with, out of curiosity? Have you tried running cows with her? Seems like it would be a worth cow runner with all those bolts flying around @ 200fcr!

EDIT: Also, I'm thinking of going fireball route (escuta's +fire skills) and picking up a HF merc. Any thoughts on that? With out going to FO (skill lvl30), I can put more points into FB synergy (Firebolt).

Eshuta's is not worth it because the +XX% just stacks with lightning and fire masteries, instead of working multiplicitively.

Isn't worth what, switching out for Wizardspike? I don't plan on getting hit that often, so 10% slower fcr, and less resists < more damage, even if it does only stack, IMO.

Are you still planning on maintaining 200% on at least one weapon switch? If yes, then one switch should be the CtA. With all that mana you're going through and your lack of block, you need the BO. The only exception there is if you have stellar FHR. Even if you have stellar FHR, you need the life to make sure you don't go into recovery for taking too much damage (1/12th, and with more life, that standard is higher).

I don't think weapon switching for separate skills sets in PvM is worth it if CtA is available. PvP is different, however, your build is separate there.

I do plan on 200% on one switch. Unfortunately, most of us (including myself), don't have the luxury of CtA on the other switch. :undecided:
