Matriarch Serena

I;ve never made a mat/pat thread, but it seems traditional, so here goes

This is my third mat/pat, a FA/LF hybrid and probably my least favorite questing char

(rant)
I have to say this build was quite invincible until hell. Gloams were murder, and in fact any undead/pi are deadly because i cannot leech them! I hate constantly buying mana pots. Offensively she is slightly weaker with ~6000 AR, but GA, LF, ad CS were always hit attacks, so it wasnt too big of a deal. Defensively, however, she was stupidly fragile. Negative resists didnt help
(/rant)

However, Ancients were easier than i thought, and WSK and baal i had litle problems, except for the gloams that seem to spawn everywhere.
So basically as long as I wasnt hit by anything I was fine.

Level 84

Stats (w/o equipment)
115 Strength
125 Dexterity
255 Vitality
15 Energy

Skills
1 in all pre-req's
20 FA
15 CA
10 Valk (18 with +skills)
1 Pierce (100% pierce with +skills and razortail)
20 LF
10 CS

Equipment

Griffon's Eye
+2 skills rare ammy, 5% LL, resists
Tal's Guardianship (normal)/Mav's Embrace (cows)/Skullder's(MF)
Nat's Soul
Razortail
Raven Frost
Manald Heal
Mav's Icy Clutch/Laying of Hands
Titan's Revenge
Stormshield(cows), mosers blesed circle (normal)
Windforce (will probably change bow to upped wws, suggested by whoever Azar was is that MP game, and maybe some other stuff...)

Right now i have a might merc (which i never use with cows), but I am contemplating switching to a BA merc because if i want to mp with her, no one uses it :). Also it would help with FA actually hitting things (so it can pierce)
Right now he has
Reaper's Toll
Shaftstop
Rockstopper

For now she will be relegated to Cow duties, as she cuts through them like nothing i have ever seen. Maybe she will be worth the trouble after all :D

btw any tips for cow runs, i.e. what would be the best players setting, etc

(wow that was longer than I thought I would make it)

Congrats on the mat :)

For cow runs just do as high a setting as you can and try to herd them all together for faster runs.

congrats and Azar is my necro:)

know that in cows you very rarely need res if your not like me and always have to have 75% res all in hell just because.

cow tips:

lern to heard cows and use decoy and valk the best way you can.

So that those massive groups of cows stand stupidly around your decoy and valk while you toss a few LF into them to fry them all. Oh and after you have killed of a large group and have some survivors dont waste time killing them of 1 and 1 let them hunt you until you can make them snowball into another large group of cows. This way you can almost always be certain to have a large group of cows to fry:D

Congrats on the Mat. My matriarch Serena is my sorc. :D But I did this build as well with my own zon, the hybrid style is good for a variety of situations IMHO.

Congrats. ;) But... change windforce to upgraded WWS? Uh... yeah... :teeth: As for the merc... I'd stick with might and use demon limb's enchant to solve AR issues for 10 minutes per charge.

appropriate advice for many situations i feel. :)

as for cows. remember that after you have turned 75 player 8 cows into bar-b-que there is often more stuff lying on the ground than you can see at a glance. i used to wonder if i was wasting my time picking up and drinking all those greater mana/heal pots etc, until the day a lum rune appeared from nowhere..

Um... how do you get to the cow level more than once?
Don't kill the king. As long as you leave the king alone you can enter as many times as you like :)

edit: Pwned ya duney

first, dont kill the cowking. if you do you can never do it again. this is easier said than done with a blizz sorc though. best to avoid the area he is in completely.
make a game. goto tristram get a new leg from wirt.. make cow portal. you can do it as often as you want.
edit. too slow:)

i gave him that suggestion because he has aweful res in hell. But you know how i am with res anyway;)

besides its his char and he desides what he will do:)

Resis can certainly be covered by other means, wolfie. I do agree that they're important, especially LR but I wouldn't swap my MP for a butterknife just because of that... ;) Especially if it's only SC.

Disco-neck Ted

The Dark Library
There's a great scene in a book called "Cats Have No Lord" where the queen makes her champion fight using only a butter knife against an opponent with a sword.

Won't spoil is by saying how it turns out, but phear the BK. ;)

It's certainly easier to build a strafer around WF, but with the right gear, I'm pretty sure WWS can do comparable damage. Especially once the higher level of deadly strike is factored in. I'm working a future WWS strafer through the game now, she is in act IV normal. The great thing about theories is that sometimes you get to test them.

Thank you all for the complements and good advice! I did a few cow runs on p5 before and got a few amn's and shael's. Will do p8 from now on. :D
