WW assassin

First of all, I have to give a big thanks to Zaph for the claws, a ww assassin would not have happened without him. Not only did he gift me a chaos, but a second chaos and then a choice of off-hand claws. I ended up using one chaos and one rare claw that did the same physical damage as the chaos. As I write this now I should have named my assassin after him. From now on call her Zaphian.

My goals for this assassin were:
1. To whirl things to death
2. While faded
3. Eating nachos
3. Using 1.07 max damage charms only (7-123 damage)
4. Dual wielding
5. Not use Jade Talon like a noob
6. Use my 50 res all Skins of the Vipermagi that I upped

The journey:

Envy jewels -> 1.09 Raven Claw -> Trap skills -> lvl 64 and chaos.
Players 8 Normal and Nightmare, Players 5 Hell
Deaths: 1

Standard journey of twinking until I could actually equip the chaos in act IV nightmare. /p8 the whole way, and when I put on chaos suwayyah and un-upped Bartucs it was still very easy. I had ~50 points into the trap tree and the rest in shadow skills for striking things. I used bos this entire time. In Act 1 hell I used a low level fade.

My first respec came in act 2 hell where I put a crapload in claw mastery and Shadow Master, wore Laying of the Hands and a rare manaleach ring, and had only death sentry from the traps tree maxed. At this point I was still playing around with gear, and it took a lot of work to talk myself out of using Jade Talon. I was using Guillames helm, highlords, raven, string, gores or war travs, and laying of the hands. The second ring slot was devoted to mana leach. If I wore Jade talon, that would free up my ring for SOJ, BK, or whatever. But my other offhand was a 340 ed suwayyah that did 30% more damage. That is not a guess, I have the spreadsheet to prove it!

After some debate and testing, I decided to use ghoulhide instead of laying of the hands due to the annoyances in act 2 with undead, and it covered mana leach for me leaving the ring slot open. Most demons are leechable, so survivability vs demons was not in question. The final straw before respeccing came after my only death, to a extra fast ghost boss pack at the entrance of the flayer dungeon. I knew I needed a better PI solution than just standing there getting wailed on. It was one of those "Scary Movie" moments, too. I was right at the entrance, and instead of exiting the flayer dungeon, for I went to a corner and tried to tp out. Cue video of scantily clad female with the villian chasing her and she choosninges to run up the stairs instead of out the front door...

I had also debated using dragon talon as pi solution in addition to manaburn solution, but decided I wouldn't be able to survive long enough kicking shile the magic damage and frozen orbs from chaos killed things. So I put about 50 points into traps and the rest into shadow skills. I dropped shadow master (if I was going to be in real trouble the master was already dead) and decided extra points in claw mastery weren't worth it.

The attack rating on ghoulhide ended up being worth its weight in gold. I found a juicy rare ring that looked like a lot of fun to wear and something I wouldn't wear on many characters, so I wore it on this aggressive gal.The only time I wished I had laying of the hands was in the River of Flame (well, the blunderbores in the durance weren't fun, either).
The Flesh Spawners took forever to whirl through, and the venom lords weren't the fastest to kill, either. It was completely safe, just time consuming. Also, I had to run it three times! The first time I hit lvl 84 right as I was getting manaburned and couldn't whirl, so I thought great, avoided the ww bug. Then D2 shut itself down due to an error 5 minutes later. So then I redid the area, but forgot to stop whirling as I hit lvl 84 and achieved the ww bug. So the third time was a charm :) The CS was pretty easy, as the undead went down very fast. I did not attempt to whirl through Lord De Seis's pack, they separated easy enough for me and merc to pick off.

Act V was a lot of fun. I didnt' even attack one of Shenk's minions, I cleared the quill rats around the outside of his area and used DS, they all died and Shenk was at 30% health when I finally found him. The Frozen River was the toughest area, I walked through the door, peeked around the corner and ate 15 gloam shots and two snake bosspacks charged me. Insta-death for the merc and I ran back through the door. The gloams mana burn causes me to chug mana potions at an incredible rate, but there wasn't much danger.

I stole Maxicek's theory about the ancients; Scorpian faced them in a p8 deathmatch. Well, technically I chickened out at 100 hp left with no pots and a dead merc on the first try, but I tied up the score at 1-1. Stone skin Korlic took quite awhile. My demon limb enchant wore out, and I found out exactly how much you miss an ancient with 1600 ar. Also, there was fun bug, I was able to whirl onto the defeated ancients platform, and you get hella stuck when you do that. I could only dragon flight away, thank goodness I had that ability!

It wasn't until the very last waypoint that I remembered to mule in a Reaper's for the merc, he had been using the ebotd war pike until then. Decripy noticably increases killspeed, but it was enjoyable without, it too as I had complete control over the monsters for CoS when I needed it. I didn't ever meet a Blood Lord pack, so that was good. The waves were as expected, Lister was extra fast and killed my merc instantly and then two more times for good measure. I had to run out and separate them, and they fell easily.

The thoughts:

-Even enchanted, my AR was less than 4000 and it was noticably low. Since matting, I may tool gear round to get a better ar. She had +650 ar to undead from ghoulhide, and the extra hits were very noticable. You also figure out exactly how many bad guys are not undead nor demons. CoH would be an amazing armor for this character, but there are jus too many monsters that aren't demon or undead to feel good about using a ber for it.

-Why is claw mastery so much worse than Barb masteries?

-Death sentry syngerizes very well with whirlwind because you randomly spread the damage around a bit on groups of guys, and then they all drop at once once one guy falls. Even at p5 death sentry was very, very powerful.

-High enough level fade should make you immune to curses. that would be a good bonus, because there is no real reason to get above level 15 or so. I don't think 1% pdr per level is a good enough incentive to really sink a lot of points in there. I would also like to walk through walls and across lakes/lava. Maybe level 25 fade for that?

Nice write up. I've noticed that once you get over lvl 90 it becomes easier to hit most of the enemies in the game, with the later bosses as the only exceptions. Interesting going the PVM route with this character- I wonder if Venom would have helped any, if at all.
