    Marathon Character

Sometime later this week, I will be starting a character who is not allowed to go into town, ever, except at the beggining of the game and when he needs to travel to different acts. For this reason, I will only be allowed to play him in one segment, i.e. no save & exits, because this would start the character in town.

I haven't set the rules down yet, but I will put them in my report once I finish playing the character. The idea is to see how far I can get, living off the land with no shops, or heals, or bought weapons or mercs, etc. This will also be hardcore. Challenges will include survival and finding a weapon, as well as limited potion count. I'm not sure what character it will be yet, but I'm leaning towards a paladin.

I plan to continue playing the character until I die, so my marathon could last one minute and end with a fluke, or run well into the night.

Rest be assured, I will post all results, wish me luck!

There are several quests where you have to go into town to advance the plot line. This marathon means you get no item repairs, you have no stash (I'd reccomend carrying the cube with you, to say the least), you can't gamble/buy items, and if you allow yourself a mercenary then you only can resurect him/her between acts. This means you want something that can solo the game and is relatively item-independant. I'd say either Skelliemancer or Sorceress of some sort.

    Good luck!

    I'll be following your progress.

I've had a similar idea for a tournament, as follows.

First, level your character in softcore mode to level 30 (or some commonly agreed-to level.)

Then, with a clock running and using a common map seed announced by the tourney organizer, race from the Rogue encampment to Normal Baal and kill him. Oh - the character cannot teleport, except at the end of Acts, etc. He can return to town by running all the way back - but that lengthens his time. If your character is killed he/she can be resurrected - but that delays him. If his Merc gets killed, ditto!

So it is similar to your plan, (except the character starts at Level 30.)

Quickdeath: Sounds like a fun idea, good luck with that!

Well, I will look up all the trouble spots with the idea soon, and then I will post all the rules once I post the report.

hum *i sense iron man* can it have been resurrected once more:eek:

for those that has no clue what im talking about :p

iron man was a set of rules quite like those Red Red Red Red Red talk about.

of course the first iron man rules was made for diablo 1:cool:

if i recall right you could only talk to people in town if it was quest related under those rules and no shopping.

Its a fun thing to do

This sounds like fun. I think I will try this too, except I'm going to allow myself to save and exit, but just never speak to anyone/use stash unless vital to going further in the game.

Now I just need to think of a char that can get past dury... zealot it is!

I always find the poisoners in Act2 norm manage to get me once or twice with a super-duper dose and drop me down to one HP. Hang on to your antidotes too.

    good luck.

If you want to do this with somewhat lower restrictions, you can simply forbid your character to touch gold. Then you could still use the stash, town storage and the healer, and collect quest rewards. If you have the means to go to town, that is. But you would do no shopping, gambling, healing, merc resurrections/hiring.

This would still be very hard.

seems like fishymancer is the best option. You will need tons of good luck.
