Mana problems...but can't make Insight.

I made the mistake of making a non-ladder character...so I can't make an Insight polearm.

I drink potions like water...what would you do?

Level 52
Fireball / Frozen Orb
Boosting STR and VIT.....base DEX and NRG.

Iron Jang Bong War Staff
Tarnhelm
Other mediocre stuff...

Would you search for an insight polearm for trade or find another solution?

At level 52, I'd just reroll a ladder character. Perhaps not the most helpful solution, but that's what I'd do - it doesn't take that long to hit 52, after all, and you admit that you don't have such awesome stuff.

With a full time job, I'm not spending another 2 weeks to get back to where I am...so how likely could I find one for trade?

Besides, Eilo's guide here doesn't even use Insight, it uses Infinity...and he doesn't have mana problems but that's at the end-game.

Re: Mana problems...but can't make Insight.

Just found Waterwalks off a random monster in A3 NM.....! I was using Hsaru's before so that's quite an upgrade.

So much for having mediocre gear...the Iron Jang Bong is actually pretty good too with +2 all skills and 20% FCR.

Also I'm making some Stealth armor so that should help a little.

Try getting some equipment that adds to your mana pool. For example, if your armour isn't anything great, just get the first 3-socket light armour you find and throw 3 Perfect Sapphires into it.

Obviously having large amounts of +mana means you can cast your spells more times before running out of mana. But, not only that, the speed that you regenerate mana is influenced by the maximum size of your mana pool - so if you have a bunch of +mana items, you'll even regenerate your mana significantly faster.

Also, fyi, spending a few points into Energy won't break your build. I wouldn't spend more than 20-30 points (on top of the 35 Energy you start with), but a small number of points can help alleviate some of your pain.

Yeah I considered the tried and true Frostburns...but I think Magefists would be better for me since it gives 25% mana regen 20% FCR and +1 Fire Skills (adding 1 to warmth). I will try to find a pair of those and will keep a lookout for an Insight polearm for trade. I figure quite a few were dumped into NL with the reset. With all of that and my Stealth armor I should be better off...

FYI, +25 mana will increase your mana regeneration rate more than +25% Mana Regeneration. Magefists are very nice for the FCR, but if you're having serious mana issues then Frostburns are usually better.

Breakpoint and formula's thread said:
Mana Regeneration
Mana Regenerated per second = 25 * [[256 * max_mana / (25 * 120)] * (%Mana Regeneration/100 + 1] / 256
The more mana, the better your regeneration will get 8)

Yup which is why I considered the Frostburns. Either will be good, but since I don't have access to other great gear yet the Magefists would be good also...we'll see what I end up with.

Edit...make that a Chromatic Ire Cedar Staff! Now that's a nice find. Seems I'm on a luck streak lately...Waterwalk/War Travs/Chromatic Ire/String of Ears/Crow Caw all today. Any of those worth enough to trade for Magefists/Frostburns or an Insight Polearm?

Some cheap items that add to mana pool or mana regen:

Frostburns
Silkweave
Gloom's Trap
Lore helmet
Stealth
Peasant Crown
Manald Heal
Eye of Etlich (I think)
anything socketed with PSaphires

At your level, you can gamble rings that give +120 to mana. If your current rings aren't helping you a lot already, get to gambling. EDIT: Magic rings can get +120, but rares can only get +90. So, don't ditch a rare just because it only has +90. If the other mods are good, stick with that.

Maybe you can trade for a Spirit sword.

My rings are very basic but each one gives me 10% FCR. I currently have 75%.....so losing one wouldn't hurt me, but I can't ditch both. I have a Manald heal laying around, I suppose I could put it to use.

What skills are you using? you can just put a lot of points in warmth.

No can do, I need those points. I will be patient and keep on until my gear is improved. I'm not going to sacrifice my character build now and regret it later.

grats on the frosties, noticing that u found wt, are they any good? may be you can trade them for a soj? I dont really do non-ladder, so I dont know their prices, but soj + max mana right? that's pretty good along with frosties.

Since your nl u might not be able to get insight but that doesnt mean your out of luck. Since your nl almost all the items are easier to trade for cheap unless they are ladder only. Your best bet is to run andy a bunch that will get you a manld or 2. It will also likely produce a civerbs amy that will have 40% regen mana. Another thing that you can do if your strong enough is to run travincal in nm and hell. This will produce alot of charms most of which are attribute charms.
Another tip I would say is buy some el cheapo mf gear from vendors. Once you do that do meph runs using the moat trick. Moat Trick Video

It should get you some adequate gear in 200 runs, 100andy and 100meph, and that should only take 2-2 1/2 hrs. Hell Andy is who u want to run to find shakos fyi. A najs plate is a cheap good armor that ppl will throw away often. The other thing is ask in baal games if anyone has any crap sorc gear even if its worse then what you got trade it. Also if your on whisper jthemules i have a bunch of nl chars, about 144, im sure i got some sorc gear laying around.

Thanks for the tips...actually I don't do the moat trick in NM, I have found it much easier (and safer) to let my mercenary tank Mephisto, that way I'm never targeted and everything goes well. If I stand across the moat I'm subjected to his magic attacks since I am in range. My mercenary has the Kelpie Snare (dropped by Meph) so combined with all the ice Meph is nearly powerless. I don't know if he will survive in Hell, but we'll see when I get that far.

The War Traveler boots are great. Actually since last post, Meph has dropped another pair - this time with the max of 139 def so now I have another to use for some trade leverage :)

I'd love to have SoJ's...they do add to max mana and +1 all skills. Back in 1.00-1.06 I had a pair with all of the other best-at-the-time sorc gear. I've also managed to acquire a +3 assassin Hellfire Torch...hope I can trade for a sorc torch. I have a total of 35% regenerate mana from items...with Magefists I'd have 60% and another point in Warmth...so far I'm on the right path.

Re: Mana problems...but can't make Insight.

I have both Magefist and Frostburns. I upgraded the Magefists to Battle Guantlets and they help a bit. Now have 60% mana regeneration and 90% from warmth. Mana regen is much better but still slow compared to what I am used to. That is, level 20-30-warmth and 400 in energy...was able to spam Frozen Orb without a timer (cooldown was introduced in 1.07) at 80% FCR without a mercenary and never run out of mana. Ahh the good old days...

Anyway Magefists essentially give you a total of 37% mana regen if you include the bonus you get to warmth...but Frostburns still outpace them as expected. They are probably closer to 45-50% themselves. Still the +1 skills and FCR are hard to beat.
