The most common misconception about MF is that "you get MF, you find tons of good stuff". That's not the case.

130% mf -> 85% better chance for unique
130% mf -> 103% better chance for set

Look at it this way: the chance to get a unique/set is low to start with. Improving a low chance by 85% still leaves it at low.

Your minions get your MF, and add their own on top of that. Skellies don't have their own MF, so they only get yours.

About 300% will allow you to have a good chance of finding better stuff, while still allowing you to kill effectively. Although a Skelliemancer can probably load up on more MF and still kill effectively.

To give some idea about the effective MF values:

100% mf -> 71% better chance for unique
100% mf -> 83% better chance for set

200% mf -> 111% better chance for unique
200% mf -> 142% better chance for set

300% mf -> 136% better chance for unique
300% mf -> 187% better chance for set

400% mf -> 153% better chance for unique
400% mf -> 222% better chance for set

In particular, look at the differences in effective MF on the right, and note that I always added 100 item MF on the left. For example, adding another 100 mf if you are already at 200 means your chance for an unique only increases by a measly 25%, and your chance for a set by 43%.

Dont forget also that being NAKED, with 0 % MF, nothing, null - you have base 100 % MF. Every next % sums up, so 100 % MF from your equipment means, de facto, 200%...etc. 100% is always base, for every character.

Good tip - to boost your MF higher try to find Gull dagger (100% mf). Kill Bishibosh many times and he will drop it, I assure you. Make it in normal, not hell or NM, because Gull is Dagger weapon, 3 lvl TC so it drops from low lvl Treasure class monsters. Bishibosh is located in Cold Plains, act 1, just somewhere to 1st wp in game :)

You can also find pretty fast Nagel rings with nice % (I found 2x29 % in 2 days, maybe luck, dunno) in Diablo Classic, not LOD. There are only 3 unique rings there so... good luck!
