Magic Find Percentage

I have a pure light sorc doing the standard Pindle/Eldritch/Shenk runs (I'm sticking to those as I don't have Infinity yet) and she rocks it, I do runs in about 1 1/2 minutes or so, thats not a problem.

My question is about MF%, and how much is optimal. I've read the stickies, and a few other threads, but I would like some first-hand observations from people. I know more MF is strictly better, but you don't want to sacrifice killing speed, as more runs = more items. With my current setup, I'm hitting about 380% MF, but just about everything that drops is rare. Granted, some of the godliest items are rares, but I'm looking for some more uniques. Is there a breakpoint I should reach for? Will I see a signifigant difference in the amount of uniques that drop if I hit say, 450-500%? What would be a better gear setup that would increase my MF without losing too much resist/fcr?

Right now, I'm wearing full Tal's (I liked that thread about full Tals vs Shako + HoTO), with Magefists/Spirit Monarch/War Travs, and several 7mfscs. Getting some more 7's would help, but then I'm losing alot of room in my inventory, so I'd rather find a different route. Any suggestions? All ideas are appreciated :)

If all you do is Pindle/Eldtritch/Shenk runs, then you won't find unqiues very often (say, compared to meph).

Try wearing the belt, armor, tal ammy (that should be 10-15% mf from belt, ** + 24 from PTopaz armor, and 65% from having 3 items from tal rasha's set for a total of 192% mf). Add in an occulus 50%, shako with Ptopaz 74%, Chancies 40%, War travelers 50% or rare Mf boots, and try to get a Gheeds 40%. Now I know I just listed off "perfect" items but these are just an example of the total you can achieve while still attaining a good amount of +skills. I wear that set up with 2 sojs, anni, & torch with 492 MF as a blizz/light sorc.

I know some of these items may be kinda hard to get but the best thing you can do to get those items (and this part does suck) is to keep making new characters and keep doing the forge quests. I've gotten mal, gul, etc. (from hell lvl hellforge) type runes from doing this and trading them for the appropriate gear. If you have a friend who can rush you or vice versa this also speeds up the amount of high lvl runes you can get.

Re: Magic Find Percentage

Because of the way the formula for unique drop odds works, it is unnecessary to have much over ~300%MF. Once you reach that easily attainable MF-goal, survivability and kill speed become much more important.

That said, adding more MF always helps.

Just don't go overboard and die every run or take 10 mins because you do 10 dmg with every bolt.

You should wear as much MF as you can without sacrificing killing speed and survivability. 380% is a decent amount.

However, as mentioned above, Pindle/Eldritch/Shenk don't drop uniques/sets very often no matter how much MF you wear. Additionally, a lot of the items they can drop don't have unique/set versions, so you'll get failed uniques (triple-durability rares) and failed sets (double-durability magic) quite often.

Just hang in there and do thousands of runs, and you'll eventually find good items :)
