Magi / Poison Hybrid any good?

I am currently level 47 with lvl 25 magi and lvl 23 skele mastery, Merc with frozen aura and fire golum (for diversion) also 3 (1+2 skillers) in revive. Doing very well. However in an earlier thread I asked what would be a good way to continue my build. I was looking at all option but I feel now that using lower resist curse (for my mages) and maxed Poison Nova (+ maxed poison dagger for synergie) seems to be a good bet. I presently use Amp damge as my merc packs the biggest punch and it also helps my CE. However when I get to hell I am going to need all of the help I can get!! Is this a decent hybrid build?

From what I know this build hasn't been used before. What I do know is that while Mages are decent tanks, they aren't as sturdy as Skellies. Most of the hybrids use Skellies as tanks. While Mages will fulfil that role for a while, you may want to think about more sturdy solutions. This could include good use of AI curses. I don't see this build working perfectly right away.

Actually, its one of the standard variants I discussed for the LoM.

I can see I have to do a rewrite or rebump if people are going to run around with *25* in Mages. :rant:

This character is quite old - over a year at least, since I had the keys setup for my laptop which I haven't used since getting my eMac.

Anyway, here's my stats:

(obviously not set up for duelling!)

Mana: 384 (not nearly enough)

Gear: (mostly untwinked)
White (in a wand with +2 Lower Resist, saves lots of skillpoints)
Mojo Zombie Head of Razors (socketed with 2 P Diamonds, it gives +2 summons and +2 Decrepify (which I don't bother using))

Skin of the Vipermagi (24 res all)
Corruption Eye (crappy rare amulet with +1 Necro skills)
2 Nagelrings (29 and 20% MF)
Trangs Gloves (I think they are the 1.10 version)
Gale Fringe (a crappy rare belt)
Gorefoot (probably I should twink on a sanders, lord knows the 2% mana leech ain't whats keeping me alive)

... and a bunch of crappy charms (no +skillers) in a pear tree! :lalala:

24 Raise Skeleton Mage (NB: only 19 points spent so I didn't end up at 25)
6 in all other summons except Fire Golem
7 each in Lower Resist (-51%) and Decrepify (no other curses)
26 PNova
14 PExplosion
7 in PDagger, CE and Teeth
10 in Bone Armour (the wand alone gives me +6... I think I may have spent one point in this though)
8 In Bonespear (granted by White)

1 skill point unspent. 3 quest skill points still to go.

It works fine. The problem is mana, but hey, you can buy the blue pots now.

For tanks use gumby + skellies + revives + optional merc. you have to raise up new skellies fairly often. Revive's are better, but suck mucho mana. Gumby only has 1700 hps in Hell, so he dies a fair bit. I'm considering trying an el cheapo Iron Golem instead (2200 hp), or I'd use a Fire Golem if he were available.

The attraction of the LoM is for a build that can actually survive in Hell untwinked. Its not super fast for killing, but it won't suddenly drop dead on you every 30 seconds. Going with PNova ups the offensive capability, but you have to get fairly close to the enemy.

AI curses won't work, there's not enough skill points. Which would be particularly true if I didn't have a 'free' Lower Resist.

Rewriting might not be such a bad idea. we've been getting a lot of questions regarding LoMs.

Now all you need to do is get rid of the sucky 10k character limit ( :rant: ) and I can give you all the crunchy build guide goodness you can handle :D
