    Mac Advice needed

I've gotten Ghorrdim - my Fishymancer - to Act 4 hell. He's been quite fun to play. I've had no deaths or NDE's, and game play has been fine.

I've just started Act 4 Hell as stated above, and seem to be running into a consistent problem. I load the game fine, and start building my army. At some point during gameplay the game quits with the OSX error message - the prog has unexpectadly quit.............no other programs are affected.

To say the least, this has become quite irritating.

    I'm running a G4 Imac - 15" - OSX 10.2.8 - 512 ram

I have managed to get to the chaos sanctuary, and am currently on my fifth attempt to try and clear it wothout the game quitting.

I've tried software mode, windowed mode, Running in OS 9, and rebuilding my directory with DiskWarrior. Next step might be a reinstall, Only I don't have the classic CDKey.

    Any help appreciated.

    -Frank

Don't bother with a full reinstall yet. You can always replace the data files with those from the CD's if it's one of those that's giving you trouble. If you check the crash log, what does that say?

I have no idea what the log means but I've had a similar problem recently. Do any of your other programs quit on you too? I was having problems with pretty much everything quitting on me and it turned out to be a problem with corrupt pref files. All I did to fix mine was to rename the preferences folder in your user accounts library folder to prefs backup or something and then copy in the pref files into a new folder one at time (tedious) or just put up with having to reset the prefs of everything next time you reload it. Anyone got any better ideas?

[edit] Sorry just reread your post "no other programs are affected". Still you could just try removing the Diablo prefs and see if that helps. [/edit]

@Araknis: Everything else seems to be working fine, I'm wondering if maybe I'm just overloading the system by having so many minions out there.

The only other time I had a similar problem was in the maggot lair in hell with my trapsin, all those beetles shooting sparks and 5 lightning traps out, bogged my system down to a crawl. Had to quit and restart then, but never had the game quit itself.

You aren't running around with a full Trang's set on by any chance? That
is the only situation that ever causes a crash for me on my iMac
running 10.2.8. If you are wearing Trang's set, the fix is to change
his gear. ;) Then the crashes went away for my necro.

Hell, I'm only using G3 800MHz with 384 Mb ram  . It bogs down pretty bad at times but it doesn't quit on me.

have you tested your RAM recently? that might be something to try, especially if some of it is upgrade RAM. other than that, i'm looking around for clues as to what is going on. if i come up with anything, i'll post it.

@SideShowBob: I am using Trang gloves and armor, just recently put the armor on instead of Duriels. Figured I could use the + summoning instead of the resists. I had to pump my strength to re-equip my TGods, I actually thought that might have something to do with it. ( wearing an unequippable item). I actually thought I had the problem licked too.

I actually made it to the last seal this time before................

@Wildjinn: I did upgrade my SODimm. How do you go about testing ram???

Just deleted my pref. file. Gonna try again. Wish me luck!

Thanks for all your help guys. Jemali was kind enough to switch me his Duriel's for my Trang armor, and tho the game did bog down at times, it didn't quit. Big D. must have been feeling sorry for me too, cuz after he went down, he left me SQUAT  Off to Act 5

I'm glad you finally made it through Big D. As I recall, my necro
didn't have full strength for the helm (without items). That's interesting
    insight.
