Lvl 18 Shield

Hi :howdy:
I need to know:
If I have a 4s Aerin or Crown Shield with Fine prefix (+31-60 To Attack Rating, +21-30% Enhanced Damage) (lvl 18) and socket it with +15 max jewels, would it be "bugged". Do I only get the ed, max or both?!

Thanks!

Shields with fine prefix? I think it's more likely a shield staffmod.
But Yes, it will be bugged. You will get only +30%ED for minimal damage, but not for maximum if you socket +max jewels IIRC.
EDIT: +15 MAX damage will be added OK

Someone (RTB? can't remember who) once said to me it works fine because of the way it's calculated. If it it's bugged or not doesn't matter, it will always be the best lld shield :)

Wasn't me.

That shield won't be bugged btw. The bug occurs if +max or +max is on an item, and then ed% is added. Ed%/min and/or max jewels unfortunately apply the min and/or max first, making them cause the bug on their own.

btw, normal (and thus socketed) paladin shields (and sorc orbs, necro shields, amazon weapons) ignore the Clvl requirement of the automods. That's how you can get Crown Shields with 65% ed and +121 AR, and only a Clvl requirement of 18.

Wow! That's good news :) But they're very expensive then? How much are they worth?

Just got a PM from solartje, I'll copy/past here if someone else finds this interesting too :)

"first of all... dump the shield.
not right type, not high stats... u can easily find better. or even trade one, they are cheap. do 3 4 cows in hell and ull find one.

use a crown shield with the best ed/ar mod (60+ed/110+ar). (more dmg, more ar, better block)

second: the ed bug is only from jewels. (the inherit ed from the shield is not counted in the bug)

the bug means: if u have ed on a jewel, the ed is only counted on the min/max part that u dont have.
meaning

if final stats (so even if u use one plain ed jewel, and one plain max jewel) are = ed/max, the ed is only add to the minimum dmg, if u use ed/min, the ed is only added to the max dmg, if u use ed/max/min the ed is not counted at all.

but this doesnt aply to the inherit ed of pala shields. so u can socket safely with max jewels, the ed from the shield will be added on max and min dmg. just dont socket any jewel with ed/max."

Sorry for confusing you, I forgot there is something more about the bug...
Anyway I found a Thrugg's post where it is clearly described:

To clarify the nature of the ed/max bug, it is not exactly as stated on Dracoy's page; though that is correct, it is not complete.

The essential bit of the bug is that if a non-weapon item has existing +min or +max on it, then any future %ed socketed in the item will not apply to the already enhanced bound.

This bug affects the item itself, ie the wrong mods are stored ont he item, so it affects both the LCS and the actual game values (tested thoroughly).

No effect on weapons. Weapons all good.

Now, unfortunately, when a jewel with both %ed and max is socketed, the game puts the max on first, and then when it goes to add the %ed it encounters the bug.

However, you also see the bug if you socket a max jewel and then a %ed jewel. You will also see it if you socket a %ed jewel in an item that naturally has +max or +min (eg Duskdeep).

You will not see the bug if you socket the %ed jewel first and then the +max, nor if you socket +max into an item that naturally has %ed (eg Biggin's Bonnet).

I am actually not sure if this only affects jewels or if you get the same bug by socketing eg +max followed by an Ohm.
