Low runes: sell/ditch/trade?

I have a bunch of lower runes (El Ith Eth Tir (well I consider them a bit lower)) but they're pushing the limit on my stash. Should I just throw them away? I didn't want to end up in a situation where I'd have the higher runes for a rune word but not the lower ones, or would it be easy enough to get more?

Do you play on battle.net or single player? Bnet, try to trade them immediatly for better runes, or ditch them. Single player, hard to say considering I dont know how you're playing (single pass, or what mods).

It's on battlenet. I'm just starting with trading so I'd have to spend a bit trying to upgrade (and I don't know what people would trade for 5 Eth runes etc)

Don't bother with low runes other than those needed for crafting...

He can cube them up to higher LOW runes again. I myself only cube Tals to Rals (for crafting), I don't bother with anything else. There is really no point in wasting time and space picking up eth/ith runes... Nef runes are sometimes used for crafting, but they are so common that I don't pick them up too...

I wouldn't bother keeping anything lower than Ral in your stash. However I do have a mule who holds one of each low rune and a few mid runes just in case I need a specific one for a runeword. That has come in handy a few times. But that is only 'cos I had a spare mule on one of my accounts.

I also mule Rals and sell them on Bnet for HRs (usually 20 Ral = 1HR). as for the rest, sell them to an npc and gamble the cash.

All runes can be cubed up if it is ladder.

If you aren't going to keep them all, I would keep ith or higher (ith,tal,ral,etc), because of how valuable rals can be in bulk. Plus ith and tal are used in some nice runewords.

If you're trying to build up some wealth on bnet, cube everything lower than Ral up to Rals. Rals are easy to sell and worth the trouble though you may need a mule to store them. This will make a big difference for you starting out. After a while you won't bother any longer.

I believe rals are used for repairing items instead of repairing with gold, but someone more knowledgeable can confirm this

They could be but most people want them because of caster amulet crafting.

On bnet US west 20 Ral = pul (not hr). 40 ral or 20 pamy 20 ral can go for um to hr.

I do recommend keeping some low ones muled for personal use, but it gets very time consuming picking up every low rune you see.

Trade values are going to vary depending on where you're at and what version of the game you're playing. For example, SeCKSEgai is quoting a rate for US West Ladder, obviously a different place than where mackemradge plays.

Well, two bits of advice:
Start muling now.
Learn what to look for and what to keep.

I'd honestly estimate that the average player, if they actually play through the game instead of getting rushed, leaves at least 2 HR's worth of stuff on the ground just going through normal, NM, and Hell on their first playthrough, mostly socketables they don't realize are valuable. There's a thread on accumulating wealth somewhere here. Good thread if you're new to a ladder.

For runes, I advise you to keep tal+ (anything lvl req 17 or higher). If you know who to go to (the crafters on the trade forums, for starters), it can be worthwhile to stockpile this stuff. Of course, you will quickly get overwhelmed by tal, ral, ort, thul, and amn if you try to store them all on your main, so I advise you to start dumping these onto a mule regularly.

Keeping the really low ones is a bad idea, in my opinion, for the same reason you don't bother with chipped or flawed gems to get pgems. It simply takes up too much space.

Thanks Banjotron. I have a few other 'mules' (I think?), or at least lower accounts that I stash things in until I find out where I should put it.

I think i'll have a look around the forums for crafters, but I'm also on US East. Thank you for the tips though

I got this from a post on planet diablo that should give some perspective into cubing lowend runes into higher runes. I'm not the author btw. I will just copy paste the information.

These are all calculated using the "El value". How many El's you need to cube to get the rune of choice.

As you can see saving lowend runes is futile if all you are going to do is cubing them. This is not even taking into consideration the amount of gems needed to cube later on.

If i were you i would take a look at some of the popular runewords then save those runes used to make them. I think Rals are pretty popular for crafting as well so if you can gather 100+ of those. You should be able to trade them for something good.

I always save absolutely everything I can, so I save all the runes I get and cube them up. Like many have said, rals are very popular. On US east there is the crafter Silverblade (on ladder) who sells hrs for 22 rals usually, so it's a good idea to save them up.

I know it sounds like tedious work, but I guess it depends on if you're from a wealthy man or a hobo stance. I rarely ever waste a morsel of items.

Wow, I think I owe Banjotron some runes for advertising :wink2: but yeah when I was gaining wealth I would keep all the "crafting" items to sell in bulk (you get a better price in bulk since you are saving me a lot of time and energy). To this day I still have a mule that holds 2 of every single low rune for the purpose of making runewords. When I use one I just make sure I pick the next one I see up.
