Lost my first HC character :(

Before I start, I didn't take a screenshot, too distressed to think of it, and I can't remmber the name of the monster. I know it's not as bad as losing a level 60 character or something, but it still hurt. I started this char 4+ months ago, and just recently started again when he only had 4 days left before deletion.

I had a werewolf druid that had just hit level 30. I'd only just found some sweet gothic plate for myself, and the belt and helmet from Sigon's set. I was stoked, that just about doubled my AR, and boosted my attack spped as well, I thought I was set for a good time.

I was in act 5, just freed my first 5 barbarians, and saw the entrance to Abaddon. Went down, running carefully, drawing monsters back over the bridges so I could deal with them in small numbers. Then came across a boss and his minions. The big minotaur-looking guys with two axes that do whirlwind.

Somehow, the boss managed to get behind me, trapping me on the bridge.

The aura cursed boss...

So I'm stuck, can't get out, with an amplify damage aura affecting me. My full rejuves all go in about 5 seconds or less, and my healing pots can't make a dent on the damage. I hesitate over whether to try and quit, but by the time I hit esc and quit, my health will vanish, then *bam* death.

I guess I'm upset about losing some of the gear I'd found, but on the upside, dying so early, I can start again and refine the build, and a able to go through with a friend I managed to get back int the game, who just started a new sorc.

Sorry about your loss, man.

Sucks when one goes down like that. But at least you went down swinging.

I had a Lv. 58 Frost Zealot that I had spent months getting into Act V Nightmare and (in about the same spot) I came across a Fire Enchanted Crush Beast. My merc wasn't doing so hot against him so I jumped in. I thought I'd back up before he popped and I'd be OK. Well. . .I Zealed one too many times and got the deeds screen. I was so pissed I didn't play for like a month. But then I came back like I always do and built a 'better' Frosty.

As much as it sucks to lose your good gear- resist the temptation to put lame gear on them for fear of loss. That is the quickest way to die again. Mule the equipment with your softcore MF'ers, and give it all to the HC characters. They need it more.

Good Luck on the rebuild!!

At least now that I've had time to think about it, I know what to do to avoid ever dying in that situation again. In my other weapon slot, I need to have something with knockback equipped, so that if I'm trapped, I can swap to that, and whack the monster out of the way and escape. Preferably a one-handed weapon, and a shield with a high block rate to go with it. My main weapon's still going to be the best maul I can lay my hands on.

Pretty sure you can't do that:wink3:

I'm pretty sure you can. . .ever hear of ATMA?

You can mule between HC and SC all day long.

(unless you are playing on the realms- then you have to mule the traditional way)

. . .But I quit playing on the realms because of all the lag.

Bummer on the death , but yours was a honourable death.. Death by monster

sure beats getting killed by a script kiddie tppk that 95% of the time you never even had a chance to do anything about it.

Dont let death discourage you , good luck rebuilding.
Hc is rollercoaster of emotion , good and bad, it's what makes it more fun to play. At least in my eyes

I agree with that. playing softcore, I just got to feeling "What's the point?" Everybody can get to level 90 if they play enough, death means nothing. My ultimate goal is to just get to Hell in HC. Beating Hell, I've never managed in either game mode. That'd be a huge achievement for me, and something worth being proud of.
