Loot etiquette in D2?

Loot etiquette in D2?

Hey all, I'm new to D2 over battle.net- I did some of the single player years back and decided to try playing online this time.

I was wondering if there was any kind of protocol in looting items off bosses. I killed diablo a few hours back with a player and he was obviously ready to grab everything; he spam clicked all the boss drops right as diablo died and took em all.

Is this how the game is normally played? I'm not really complaining or anything, just want to know if I should be prepared to see that all the time.

Yes, playing online you will see that all the time.

I play Single Player, and often join others from the Single Player Forum via TCP/IP for Hell Baal runs. We generally use a system of rotating drops, where each player takes a turn at getting all the drops from a Baal kill. Quite civilized, really.

Noodle schmoodle is right. It is a pure clickfest online and if you're unlucky you will be taking it up against a haxxor bot which nearly always clicks faster than us.

We sometimes did some ETF Baalruns on Europe too, also with loot turns. That turned out to be one of the most fantastic, fun and quality Baalrunsession ever.

Aye, there's no forum or etiquette in D2, public play.

In SP yeah or in closed groups of members from here yeah.

That's not the Etiquette but that's the Practice! ... ^^
Unless you happen to find a noble guy out there and then you could take Turns - for Games if you will do it numerous times or for Bosses if you will be together just this game!
Found/Join a good Clan - that's what I used to do when I used to play back in the end of 1.11 and the beginning of 1.12 and I enjoy good relationships with some of those guys even now!

Thanks for the replies--

I would rather play with people that have some sort of respect for the other peeps they are playing with. Is tcp/ip play preferred because of this type of thing? How is the open scene, would it be a better multiplay experience? I assumed the ladder stuff was "where its at" but what do I know (answer: nothing )

The Open scene is filled with hackers/cheaters, I wouldn't suggest going there.

If you decide to stick with closed realms, you may want to try the player matchup forum here looking for likeminded players. If you describe the etiquette you're looking for, with a little patience, I'd wager you could find some players who'd like to link up in order to avoid the loot free for all of regular pick up games. I've never player single player, but from all accounts, the SP community here is quite nice when it comes to group play, so that would be another option.

Good luck.

Maybe find some online friends on your realm by using the player matchup forum. That way you can play with people you (get to) trust and still get a share in the loot.
I made some very good friends that way - friends I still e-mail with occasionally, even though we stopped playing years ago and have never met IRL.
A word of warning though - if you find some really good friends, the game will become very addictive. It is much harder to quit, when you have many online friends waiting for you and depending on you.

The usual "etiquette" in random games is this:

1. Snatch what you can get.
2. You don't give it back.
3. Make fun of anybody who isn't as quick-witted as you.
4. PK+NK those who are better with words than you.
5. If you fail at 4., leave the game and look for one with easier targets.

I'm never playing in random games.

I laughed at krischan's comments, but there close to true unfortunately. If your playing softcore, go with the advic mentioned. In HC, there are also groups that organize for those same purposes. banana members for east coast, gauss for europe, etc. I play with banana, and just about everyone i play with is very respectable with drops (always wait once something drops, ask around, etc.). there's also alot of trading and giving going on in game with same groups. It's a blast to play, and makes the game , like Tj said, addicting :).

But on the whole, the public scene is what prompted me to purchase multiple license's many moons ago and just run myself when i need the extra drops (when im not ingame with friends that is). I still play pub (in softcore that is), and there are a few things to remember. such as never do your Baal quest in a pub game (drops are better for the qeust kill, and you deserve those items :D ), always assume you won't get anythign in a drop, and be delighted when you do, and dont really level with anyone in game unless you know them ( and they wil be decent on drops). I often use mule park games to run it fo rthe extra exp or gear drops on bosses...they are often called such things as 'parkit', 'parking lot' etc. If they've ben open for less than 30m or so, usually some of the bosses are still left. stuff like that.

It's not always that juvenile - but as far as loot goes its whoever grabs it fastest. If you're really looking for rewards its far better to do the same run in solo play. If you can't successfully complete that task (ie hell baal and minions) then you need to find something you can do that can net you something valuable enough to trade for what you do need. Like keys, or certain uniques, runes etc.
