That is a sneak preview of the Longhorn(MS's latest OS due in 06) window. Now is it just me or does that look a lot like the Aqua theme of OSX? If you switch the brushed metal with smooth plastic/metal that is what you would get.

Your thoughts?

Once you get into a "window" GUI (not windows just a similar GUI) I think any one cant start saying, doesn't product A look alot like Product B, and look over there at product C that looks like product A but only 5 years ago.

Me personally I don't care if all the os's look the same, its how they work that makes the difference to me. Some are better than otheres, some may be better at one thing while another is better at something else.

Theres always gonna be people that prefer PC over Mac and Mac over PC.

How is this different from XP?

 

Better security, interface(supposidly), new HD partition, 64-bit support, and as they are saying right now "It will be the first Windows OS to ship with no known bugs.". :uhhuh: Yeah right.

 

I bet it doesn't even install properly.

i dunno...the look doesn't really matter to me...i'm still running 98SE but soon my new laptop will arrive and i will join the world.

I will undoubtably be a latent upgrader to this thing. all i see is a cute clock that's too big and a pop up blocker. nothing special.

I meant to say that there is a new format for the partition WinFS it will replace the NTFS that XP uses now.

 

I'll stick to NTFS...WinFS sounds....buggy.

 

Looks like a skin for winXP. i hope there's alot of progress made between now and 2006 for their sake.

 

Longhorn...Microsoft's grandest attempt yet to take over the electronic world. If I'm not mistaken, Longhorn is the OS that will have "the dictator-like-computer-monitoring-and-control-system formerly known as Palladium" built in. Someone needs to stop these fools.

 

Longhorn at this point is a bunch of underlying technologies. (Some of them sound pretty cool, but I don't think the OS will be as nifty as OS 10.5 or whatever I'm using at that point.)

I think MS is working on making the engine run smoothly before it worries about what color to paint the car . . . I'd be surprised if that were anything like the final default look of the system.

 

The bit they had on TechTV today said that the GUI is done and that you will get "color switches" instead of themes. The stuff that have sound cool but won't be up to speed with Linux/Mac at that point. That is basically what Panther is now.

And yes I do not like this "MS can look at your system from tech support to fix the problem without explaining to you what to do"- TechTV thing they have going. . .to many loopholes set up.
