Living black goo

I once saw on some David Attenborough this black mould thing that under timelapse photography it would move about as one living organism but its a difficult thing to do a search on.Anyway after seeing the film 'Phantoms' Im sure its based on it ,does anyone know its scientific name or a website with info on this organism?

You might be thinking of a slime mold which is a symbiont of a fungus and bacteria. They generally live in tropical rain forests and come in all colors (although I'm sure some are black).

Edit: Slime molds are not only tropic, they live anywhere, and are no longer considered fungi. But that is probably what you are looking for.

Ah thanks 'slime' that word didn't come to me.I think its a bit of an art searching for things sometimes well when they have such common words in the name.

No problem. You can ask me anything, really. I have a very non-demanding job where I basically just surf the internet all day. For reals, any questions that I think are somewhat interesting I will research and answer for all! I have access to a lot of periodicals and scientific journals, as well, so my information is likely to be accurate!

The Social Amoebae The Biology of Cellular Slime Molds by John Tyler Bonner

The magazine and periodical Science gives this book a good review and, from the review I read, looks like it would have a bunch of information on this subject that you would like. If you go to a decent sized college they would likely order this book if you request it.
