What kind of melee pala? Strategies and suggestions vary wildly for shock zealots, frost zealots, avengers, fanatic zealots, conviction zealots, chargers!, smiters, etc...

So post a little more info and maybe we can help out a bit!

As far as I know, Lister has never, I mean ever, cast Iron Maiden on me. Besides, the benefit of a rift-a-din (I loved my SC one) is being able to take a full zeal while IM'd and coming out of it just fine.

My best suggestion, don't risk it. Ever. Any melee character I have played on HC (Kicker, Fanatic Zealot, Conviction Zealot, WW barb) has never tried to tank Hell Listers FE. Try to separate the pack, and pick them off one at a time, then let your Merc make the killing blow. Its a bit trickier with zeal, since you can't target just one monster, and may end up taking out Lister while mid Zeal and unable to move, so separating is your best bet. Or, since you already have maxed conviction, try to get a pair of gimmersheds, and throw just like you would around IM.

As for a merc, if you can afford it, a faith rogue merc is best for the fana aura, but if not, go with a holy freeze merc. The slow is nice, and his cold damage will be boosted a bit by your conviction.

Hope that helps a bit, I'm a bit chicken when it comes to FE, so I play it safe, maybe even to safe...

Stand at the entrance to the Throne and edge your way in a bit, as you don't have a merc atm you don't have to worry about him pulling them all your way...if you have Glimmers, bung a few at the Throne and see if the leech swirls come up...edge a bit further...one or two will see you, let them come very close then run a few steps back...wail on them...rinse and repeat...kinda hard to write that tactic!

BTW, did ya get my PM dude?!

yeah, i got it
glimmers are nice idea :)

i found out myself that i can use lvl 5 oak sage, (nature peace) and prebuff treachery fade for extra protection, do u think its a good idea?

Yeah, it can be a bit tricky to lure them out one or two at a time. But there are ways for each build to do so. My ES/Orber freezes the normal Minions in place while lister just gets chilled so keeps moving towards me. Or, if you want to risk it, although without teleport its dangerous, you could try to bottle neck them by going up the stairs where Baal is at, and have them come up 1 or 2 at a time. But without teleport (or Leap or something) you can get trapped.

Also, a source of life tap anywhere helps a lot, I keep a tap wand on switch specially to keep my merc alive, since I depend on his level 17 med and prayer aura to keep me alive and well. If he dies, I could soon follow, and that ain't an option. If you got high enough defense, then may not even hit you much, so you could maybe take a few of the regulars minions without a problem, but again, life tap helps that.

The oak helps, my sorc uses one as well, having a merc with ~3k life means he wont get put in hit recovery as often, and will be able to tank well (even more so with tap). One thing to note, the oak likes to wonder off, sometimes right into the pack, proceeding to get itself killed in one shot, so don't count on it to much, I mostly use for teleporting. ~950 life to ~1400 makes a nice difference.

About the fade, while the fades 15% DR helps, along with the venom, its to much of a hassle to have to stand in a fire or something till it triggers. Killing them should not be a problem to you, the only thing that should be is the FE. Just be careful of FE LE even more, my 4k+ singer barb with max res got knocked down to about half life in 2 or so hits, I don't know how, but it got the heart beating. That was before the death explosion.

Well, I typed a lot, but it would be a shame to see someone lose all that nice gear to a completely stupid game feature. Seriously, it should do like 1/10 of your life or something, thats workable.

Oh, and yeah, watch out for Dolls to if you are Baaling, I hate those little suckers.....

Definitely lure them away, but not necessarily for the reasons already stated. The #1 reason I'd lure them away is to avoid Baal's Decrep. 50% slow and -50% DR can ruin any melee char's day pretty quick (besides maybe a WW Barb).

The "how" is a little known bug on FE LE creatures when you hit them with stun abilities (such as warcry or smite). Each hit triggers not only the usual LE zaps, but also the FE explosion. I've seen several smiters and singers go down vs. FE LE Lister. The main problem is the speed of those skills is so high that generally you're dead before you realize you're even taking damage.

Hmm that could explain why I lost my whirlwind barb on bartuc the other day on NIGHTMARE  . He was level 80 , I was rushing a friend and it seemed like nothing in nightmare could touch me and suddenly life got sucked out of me hehe.. I was even using a lightsabre for lightning absorb on switch
