List of Crushing Blow items for making Iron Golem

This is a list items which have crushing blow (uniques, sets and runewords) to make your iron golem with. You want to do that when you cannot have crushing blow on your merc OR on yourself, but still need it for faster boss killing.

A. Unique items with Crushing Blow
1. Stonecrusher (Unique Legendary Mallet)
2. Stormlash (Unique Scourge)
3. Windhammer (Unique Ogre Maul)
4. Cranium Basher (Unique Thunder Maul)
5. Earth Shifter (Unique Thunder Maul)
6. The Gnasher (Unique Hand Axe)
7. Humongous (Unique Giant Axe)
8. Crushflange (Unique Mace)
9. Bonesnap (Unique Maul)
10. Knell Striker (Unique Scepter)
11. Rixot's Keen (Unique Short Sword)
12. Islestrike (Unique Twin Axe)
13. The Minotaur (Unique Ancient Axe)
14. Hone Sundan (Unique Yari)
15. Executioner's Justice (Unique Glorious Axe)
16. Frostwind (Unique Champion Axe)
17. Fleshripper (Unique Fanged Knife) (better use yourself rather than rustbucket)
18. Steel Pillar (Unique War Pike)
19. Astreon's Iron Ward (Unique Caudaceous)
20. Heaven's Light (Unique Mighty Sceptor) (precious item, keep for trade rather than rustbucket).

B. Set items with Crushing Blow:
1. Bul Katho's Sacred Charge (Set Colossus Blade)
2. Immortal King's Stone Crusher (Set Ogre Maul)
3. Guillaume's Face (Set Winged Helm) - better give to your merc rather than make rustbucket

C. Runewords with crushing blow:
1. Black (Thul Io Nef)
2. Strength (Amn Tir)
3. Beast
4. Duress
5. Eternity
6. Kingslayer
7. Death
8. Destruction
9. Infinity
10. Last Wish
11. Obedience
12. Wrath

Notice that many runewords are very costly, so you may wish to use them on yourself or your merc rather than make a rustbucket.

Notes:
1. Ribcracker staff also has crushing blow, but I don't think you can make a rustbucket out of a staff because it's not metal.
2. In a similar way, Bloodtree Stump and Fleshrender can't be used to make iron golem because they are clubs - nonmetal.
3. Most properties of the items get transferred to the iron golem except (i) mana steal and (ii) chance to find magic items.
4. If you use a runeword to provide crushing blow to your iron golem, make sure to make the runeword in a metal item (e.g. in a cuirass rather than a wire fleece)

Also any metal made Black runeword Thul Io Nef (Club/hammer or Mace but don't make in club) makes a handy addition to the list.
+120% Enhanced Damage
40% Chance Of Crushing Blow
+200 To Attack Rating
Adds 3-14 Cold Damage - Cold Duration 3 Seconds
+10 To Vitality
15% Increased Attack Speed
Knockback
Magic Damage Reduced By 2
Level 4 Corpse Explosion (12 Charges)

Strength (Amn Tir in a metal Melee weapon works to a lesser degree)
35% Enhanced Damage
25% Chance Of Crushing Blow
7% Life Stolen Per Hit
+2 To Mana After Each Kill
+20 To Strength
+10 To Vitality

The Hone Sun Yari would be better upped (if ladder) socketed with Amn/sheal combos and given to the Merc.
Use the cheap items for a rustbucket because you will lose him.
Anyone caught using Astreon's Iron Ward (Unique Caudaceous) this way should be Smacked.

Thanks... I was being a bit lazy to mention runewords too... but did that anyway. Original post is now updated

OK - nice that its inclusive now but if you want to make a list worth a sticky I would analyze the above for % CB plus other mods that will effect him and the cost of the items used. Maybe make a ladder vs non-ladder list as some items that are cheep on ladder are worth much more in non-ladder as the only ones out there are brought in and traded at season end.
I only mentioned Black and Strength runewords because they are cheap enough to make and have good mods overall for a Iron G. The others on the runeword list are just not something you would want to use this way.
My list of usable (ie cheep and common) items would be more like.
6. The Gnasher (Unique Hand Axe)
7. Humongous (Unique Giant Axe)
8. Crushflange (Unique Mace)
10. Knell Striker (Unique Scepter)
11. Rixot's Keen (Unique Short Sword)
12. Islestrike (Unique Twin Axe)
13. The Minotaur (Unique Ancient Axe)

2. Immortal King's Stone Crusher (Set Ogre Maul)

1. Black (Thul Io Nef)
2. Strength (Amn Tir)

the other items could be traded for more of the items on this short list + something

Also - I think the
9. Bonesnap (Unique Maul)
4. Cranium Basher (Unique Thunder Maul)
5. Earth Shifter (Unique Thunder Maul)
are wooden (based on the graphics I think it's clubs and Mauls)
There a 2 Armors with CB I think Duress (a waste of it in this case and it would have to be made in metal Armor) and Rattlecage.
Giant Skull could be added to the helms (A waste again)
I'm not sure if Claws, boots, gloves, bows, orbs, thrown, and wands can be made into IG? Steelrends sounds like it should work but it would be a waste.

There's a website that lists all items that give all mods. Can't remember the link and I'm not on my own computer now so can't look it up. But I thought it would be reassuring to you guys that this website has been there for xx years.

16. Frostwind (Unique Champion Axe)
12. Wrath
3. Most properties of the items get transferred to the iron golem except (i) mana steal and (ii) chance to find magic items.
Just some nit-picks:

16. - ??????
Frostwind is the unique Cryptic Sword, and it doesn't have Crushing Blow. The unique Champion Axe is Messerschmidt's Reaver, and it doesn't have CB either. Dunno what you were on when you thought of this one, man.

12. - Wrath is a missile weapon runeword, which means Bows and Crossbows, none of which can be made into Rustys.

3. - Mana Steal gets transferred, and IIRC MF% does as well. It's just that Iron Golems have no mana so mana steal is useless. I dunno, maybe you should test it by making an Iron Golem out of an item with mana steal, and see if the animation is shown.

Also - I think the
9. Bonesnap (Unique Maul)
4. Cranium Basher (Unique Thunder Maul)
5. Earth Shifter (Unique Thunder Maul)
are wooden (based on the graphics I think it's clubs and Mauls)
I'm quite sure that Mauls, Great Mauls and their exceptional and elite counterparts can be made into Iron Golems, considering that Immortal King's Stone Crusher (an Ogre Maul, elite version of Maul) is one of the most commonly suggested Rusty fodder items.

You also forgot a good one: Bloodtree Stump, which has 50% CB.

Great post!

When I read the first sentence, I was expecting to see the %CB for each item. Not only for Rusty, but also for use by regular characters.

Well I made some goof-ups. I used a lot of older posts from this website to collect the data for my list, but looks like a lot has changed over a period of time in this game. I'm working on making a new list based on information on the arreat summit itself. And that is not nit-picking, that is "correction". Thanks buddy!

You are right about Wrath runeword too - We cannot make a rustbucket out of missile weapons.

However I am pretty sure about %mf and %mana steal not being transferred to iron golem. Reaon is this. The Arreat Summit specifically mentions these two properties not being transferred to iron golem. I don't know of any others, so let's have just these two for now.

I had bloodtree stump in my original list, but I think it's a club rather than a maul - but I need confirmation from someone. I'm trying to buy a bloodtree stump myself, and let's see if I can make a rustbucket out of it. My general rule for iron golems is - if you drop an item and it makes a metallish sound, it'll become an iron golem. However if it makes a wooden sound, it will not. Just my general rule, may be imperfect but I don't know for sure, unless I research bloodtree stump of course!

Anything having to do with Strength, Dexterity, Vitality and Energy will not be transferred to the Golem, since he does not have those properties. Also anything having to do with Mana will not be transferred to him. You might see the animation for it, since the Golem is wielding the item, but he will not benefit from it. +Skills and items granting skills will also not be transferred. That is all that I can come up with at this point. I'd have to look over the lists of possible mods before I can rule out anymore stuff.

Bloodtree Stump is a "War Club" base weapon - which itself is the exceptional version of Maul. Try to look past the actual name of the weapon to what the weapon actually is. Blizzard made the Normal/Exceptional/Elite item system pretty simple, the Exceptionals/Elites are technically the same as the Normal items, only with a different name and different damage, defense, requirement and/or durability stats.

I knew you could not make the clubs IG and I was not sure about the Mauls but I said it was based on the graphics, all the Martel de Fer versions sure look wooden :) but your right on about the IK mauls so thanks.
I really think some in depth analysis would be needed as the other mod's and the % of CB make a big difference in how he does, I find it's pretty easy to slap a Black or Strength runeword together and use that.
