Lightning Sorc Question...

Hey All,

New to the forums but a long time Diablo player.

I had a lightning / orb sorc in 1.09 (as most people did) and i am now trying out a pure lightning sorc for PvM to run with my friends.

I have a quick question about facets and lightning skill damage vs. -% lower resists.

Here is my following set up as of lvl 81

P Griffons (with P light facet) %25 / %20
COH
Hoto
Lidless
Arach
2x SOJs
+2 crafted ammy with fcr
silkweaves
frostburns
8x lightning GCs

My Question is what would serve me better for overall lightning damage.

Lidless (socket it with a 5/5 lightning facet)

OR

4 socket monarch with 4x 5/5 lightning facets

I know my damage would "show" as being higher with the lidless on, as well as the added fcr.

Basically, either go with
lidless = +1 skills, +5% dam, -5% lower resist
OR
monarch = +20% damage, -20% lower resist

Any help with this or other gear upgrade idea's would be great!!

Thanks all
Sparkxxx

P.S. This is USeast Non-Ladder Softcore

Hey welcome to sorc forum.

I'd go with monarch, so you can shatter the @$$es of those F_ags who put all kinds of light absorb and stacked resi stuff on. W/ -40% it's gonna be hard to live up to your lightnings.

P.S. try to get 2 more gcs and P light 3skill eschuta w/ facet instead of hoto. You will MURDUR everyone :D.

edit : btw it looks like you're rich, so get a CTA to fill up the mana gone from your frosties which you should lose for trang gloves. (fcr / cold resi)

Thanks for the quick reply.

I actually have 16 light GCs.

I was thinking of swapping my gloves NE way.

Probably go with eschuta / monarch and hoto/lidless on switch since my resists will me crap without those :)

Anyone got a P lightning 3 skill eschuta for trade??? lol

I would take the 20/20 shield for the -20% enemy resists, especially when they stack up on resists

I actually do have a +3 / 20% Light Eschutas on USEast softcore non-ladder. This really should be in a different forum but my account name is *pryzmatik2, Sorry admins.

The +1 skills from lidless isn't that big of a difference also.

They need two small charms to resist the 20%, and the added damage is very minor. I'd go with lidless for over-all dueling. If they're stacking lightning resist for say FoH pallies your -resist isn't going to do anything anyway.

I too have a lightning sorc, I use:

Shako
Mara's
Occy (4/5 facet)
Up'ed Vmagi (4/5 facet)
Lidless (P. diamond)
Arachnind
2xSoJ
Silks
Mage Fist

7xGC's
1x14 resist all gc

Assumptions:
I did these calculations on my sorc, your actual results may vary.
- resist is equivilant to enhanced skill damage.

I only do 32k on my lightning but I find that if I switch out for a CoH then I no longer hit the last break point for Chain Light/Light (117). It would depend on what % FCR your amulet is to determine if you will hit that mark,
40+20+20+25=105, that is not including your amulet. Anything 12 and higher you hit that break point. Keep the Lidless and that isn't an issue, and you could go for a +3 to Lightning Skills amulet with a nice second mod.
With only lightning mastery taken into consideration, you get a 12% damage increase, that is better than 2 facets. It is hard to do calculations regarding the - resist because that will vary with each monster you encounter.

I see a 6.14% damage increase with at 39-40 slvl on my lightning damage, or 1841 damage gained by adding +1 to skills at level 39 to reach 40. Only 12% of that comes from lightning mastery, the other 1620 damage comes from adding +1 to Lightning. This leads my to believe that + to skills is much better than adding facets instead of skills.

Each 5% facet adds about 240 lightning damage, that is 1944 if you assume that - resist is about the same as enhanced damage. A +1 to skills is 1841, without a facet in my shield, that would bring the total to 2327 if you use a faceted Lidless rather than 4xFaceted shield.

I think this is because facets only enhance the base damage, not increase it. Increasing the base damage of anything is much better. That is why eth weapons and armor are so good, because being eth results in 50% more damage or defense that the enhanced damage/defense is based off of.
