Liberator vs Mage

I know the fact that, both have ups and downs, but overall, which would you pick?

I know that I make a lot of Polls at times, but its for the benefit for myself and to other people who are also making a decision between this dilema as I am. I'm trying to break it down to piece by piece of what I should make and STICK to it.

Thank you for your vote and your understanding.

be careful where you post your answers guys, polls are not working properly, post here and not in the hardcore forum bumping an old thread

Thanks,

Mike

Hm, that was a.. coincidence. I was actually sort of thinking the same thing. o_O

I don't know that much about them but. I have a 93 Lib (a lot more hammer than charge) and was thinking about making a mage.

Libs cost less AFAIK. They can't be sorbed. Less skills needed from gear to get damage to a decent level.

While mages reap unprepared people, get a lot easier duels versus some classes. And can still generally charge decently.

I picked Libby... Although Mages are also a very cool build...

Oh... I am so torn now. Mages are great in that they easily hit 125FCR, and can use a Caster weapon all the time... Libbys require more balancing in regard to weapons and the like. Well, do you want really defensive and fairly defensive (Mage) or fairly defensive and strong aggressive (Libby)?

Both are very useful builds. But, from my experience, a libby is easier to play. It also has 2 sources of non sorbable damage.
I think a libby is more robust than a mage, due to only needing about 4 pcombats and having lots of space for life/res sc's.
Of course, mage can just slap on a grief and adopt a libby play-style when appropriate.

Mages can also be a pain to optimise, but viets guide can help out a lot with that.

I've been contemplating the same thing also. After lots of play practice, which of the two builds is strongest overall in 1v1 duels? I'm looking at the moment for a real hardcore dueler, as most of my builds, although strong, aren't all-dominating.

My first post on here ^_^, Anyway, i am saying a Liberator, although i am making both, i will probably use the liberator m ost, the mage will be nice for other kinds of duels, especially for the modders with things like Auto TP and etc, because you will have pretty massive damage from both ends, and you can dodge a charge...although it is sorbable, when you need the last hit in a mage could be really nice , of course a v/t is the same way though...

i use mage too even when foh is stacked it still has uses vs casters, i.e the stun gives you time to grab quick namelocks etc i kill alot of casters like this.

Also as stated you can adopt a libby style of play i.e i carry grief in stash for special occassions.

However libby is more flexable also alot more versatile due to inventry i.e being able to stack up res alot easier giving the flexablity hammerdins have as their advantage.

Also costs are important i believe a libby can be done much cheaper than a mage, i mean just to get over 4k+ life on a mage with a 9 p combat inventry requires nearly all skillers to be arround 30+ hp not to mention other usefull gear like nice amu with skill fcr res etc and decent griffons.

FoH has a lot of sweet uses even with stacked resists. Stun, chipping away at life, making an opponent sacrifice gear, irritate opponents into aggression and stops desync.

I agree that libbys are far more flexible in terms of stashing, but a mage can be built for flexibility as well. use less than 9 pcombs, and stack the resists even higher.

And I agree about the costs. Mages are very very expensive to even be viable, not to mention the level grind, but mages have a lot of answers to a lot of situations. Most versatile pally hybrid IMO.
