Level cap

Level cap

Will there be level cap in D3?

Will it be like in WOW where everyone has same level or like in D2 where very few people would get to the top levels?

Anyone know?

IMO there should be theorethical level cap but no hardcap. Like for example it would take a year with no deaths to get rank from 99 to 100. and 5 years to get from 100 to 101

I don't think they've officially announced anything.
I would assume it will be like D2. Level cap somewhere (99), with limitless amounts of XP.

Not sure on a level cap for D3, however, I feel like the main reason "everyone" has the same level in WoW is because of the massive amount of players in WoW compared to the number of people that still play D2.

Many had multiple max lvl characters. You could make max lvl character in a month in WOW. Last possible levelup took day or two in WOW while in D2 ages... weeks?months?. You could never lose experience, nor die. The game basically started when you reached max level and could begin grinding battlegrounds and raids. You can start new char at level 50 if you allready got one character at lvl 80. You couldn't even wear most of the gear unless you were max lvl... atleast when the lvl cap was 60.

you must of not played wow. leveling in the 2 games are very differnet. It is easier to level ing ht e low lvls of diablo, especially if you cheat and get rushed, but the high levels take so muche time. It is not the amount of people playing, it how easy it is to get to the cap level and like people have said there is no experience loss in WOW, so if you di, who cares you will just get a res or run yiour ghost back to your body safelly.

Blizzard has said the level cap will be 100. The only reason it was 99 in D2 was because it needed to be kept at 2 digits because of the code or something. It was in a video interview I believe... If anyone has a link that would be sweet

That's nonsense. Median uses the same game essentially, but has a lv120 cap.
Iirc, hero editors could also mimic lv100+, up to a certain extent.

There's no formal announcement yet.

Meanwhile I've searched and searched and couldn't find any interview of Jay Wilson saying the reason behind level 99 had to do with the code.

But It's no surprise. Game code couldn't force a 99 cap. If the level was stored in its own variable, it could have the following maximum values:

char: 127 or 255
short: 32767 or 65535
int: 2147483647 or 4294967295

There's two values per variable type because the first value is for signed versions of the variable.

If instead the level cap is stored in a bit array (which I seem to recall being the case), then any level cap forced by the code would be:

1bit: 1
2bit: 3
3bit: 7
4bit: 15
5bit: 31
6bit: 63
7bit: 127
8bit: 255

There's no 99.

I meant the way they coded the display, it was for only 2 digits.. resulting in a maximum of 99. I'll keep trying to find that interview because I am positive Jay Wilson said that, just not sure how he worded it.
