Left over skill points

Left over skill points

Hey guys.

I've only started getting back into D2 after playing WoW for ages and have a fishymancer who's currently level 90.

My main use for him is to do MF and currently building his MF up now.

Hes your typical cookie cutter build, but ive managed to build up alot of extra skill points, 27 to be exact and have been in constant debate with myself about where to put these points, im not very keen on Mages since i find they're not to my liking and i have the curses i feel i need.

I currently have CE maxed (20), maxed SM (20) and maxed RS (20), with this build i MF anywhere perfectly fine which adds to not knowing which could benefit me.

Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm level 80 with 27+ skill points saved and I don't know whether I should max mages and equip my merc with Infinity, or 1 point bone armor and max a synergy.

Do both. Let's assume you level at least to 90 (not too difficult)...so that would give you 37 skill points to distribute. I'd max the mages combined with an infinity merc and then 1 point in bone armor and 16+ in bone wall/prison.

Well if you are just dead set against mages....then the only thing left to put points in that will really matter would be 1 point in bone armor and then everything else in bone wall/prison for a nice 500+ defense bone armor.

I agree with Wizdomm, I would max mages and the rest in BA/synergies.

You could also put points to golem mastery if you want to make iron golem out of insight to help with mana issues.

Although maxing DV is considered more of an HC thing, I personally think it's more fun than maxed Mages. For me, it makes gameplay a little more "pro-active".

And of course BA + synergies for whatever is left over.

maxing mages isn't too bad...ad a point into bone armor is most certainly worth it..with + skill items that should get you 200-600 absorb....

beyond that i can't think of anything that is critical....

Yeah thanks for the tips, BA seems my best bet if im going to be teleporting around..

How are mages when it comes to generally moving around with so many summons do they all get clustered up and stupid or generally alrite since they can stand at range?

@Yagamil

if you have enigma, there is no problem. Without enigma mages are not too bad, you will notice that sometimes they get in the way in tunnels or doorways, but the rest of the areas there is no problem getting around.

can someone help me clarify this. if i put 1 point into bone armor and all it synergies, with the +skill items i have, it will boost all my synergies level and thus give me a pretty decent bone armor with just 1 point into it and it's synergies?

i thought only hard points into a synergy will make the synergized skill better?

Re: Left over skill points

as far as BA absorption, +skills will only boost BA, 10 points per lvl. The reason people say to do the synergies instead of BA is that 1pt in BA gives it 10 hp, each pt in synergy gives 15hp, so boostin the synergy is actually better.

You are right, only hard points work on synergies.

Fishymancer for Uber Trist

20 Raise Skeleton (RS)
20 Skeleton Mastery (SM)
1+ Raise Mage
1 Clay Golem (Clay Golem in use)
1 Blood Golem
1 Iron Golem
1 Fire Golem
10 Revive
1 Golem Mastery
1 Summon Resist

Poison & Bone:
1 Teeth
20 Corpse Explosion (CE)

Curses:
20 Amplify Damage (Amp)
1 Terror
1 Decrepify (Decrep)

With this setup you got 80 skills in your max'd once + the 1 point skills..
Now you dont have to put any in revives, but if you are an Very nice necro that kicks uber trists, you may want to have just a little more of these guys..

You can put the skills left into revives (if you have 10 you dont need more)
And put everything else in to Skeleton Mage..

Since you have RS and SM maxed out, I suggest to put the rest into amplify.. The big radius really helps a lot, especially with full trist runs.. You can always put a few more in revives..

If this is no option, then try bonespear and bonespirit one point..
It has not much dmg, but you can kill a creature on hell when your merc is resting in town!

Re: Left over skill points

I would up Amp but currently im getting good bonus +skills so the radius it covers is very good and my revives currently at 7 now

How strong are mages in hell? they dont seem to have alot of hp so they dont seem like they have huge survivability but i guess thats what skells are for to tank most the damage..

Im pretty new though so uber runs ill probably steer clear of for a while til ive alteast earned some wealth and decent gear.

but again thanks for all the feedback

Re: Left over skill points

Your normal skeletons tank the most dmg in hell, the mages are in the backline since the dont run at the crowds..

7 Rivives is not much, but again, with elite gear youll be at 20-25 with 1 point in it.. I prefer 30-35 so thats why i put 10 points in it.. Notice that your minions must be kept alive, or revived new once, so make sure you can matain your army..

I can understand putting a few extra points in revive. but why in the world would you max amp?

That was my thought too. IIRC, the radius of Amp increases about twice as fast (per skill point invested) as the radius of CE. So for maximum efficiency, the level of Amp should be about half that of CE.

Yes, a single-click-Amp-the-whole-world could save a little bit on mouse movement. But I don't think that is enough to justify using up the 10 (at least) additional skill points needed to max Amp. If you're going for a "curse-the-whole-world" skill, maxing DV would be a much better choice.

Re: Left over skill points

+ 1 for the uselessness of putting more than 1 point in amp here. With just decent eq, i have to problem amping the hell out of everything in 1 click. BA is the usual way to go (isn't it just plain stupid that it benefits more from synergies than from actual points on it? :p).
Btw, Regnar, you run solo trists with your fishy? :-O
Would you name your full eq, i 'd be very interested in that. I only use him for MF and lately even that is rare.

ougk

Re: Left over skill points

Yep like people have said i wouldnt go with putting more into Amp since with a click or two i covered everything..

Since were behind a league of skellies is BA that good since physicals shouldn't be getting past them and only ranged attacks will be the most likely to get us, and from what i know BA only works with physical damage correct?

So maybe mages are a better investment..? though even if i was to invest in them id have 7 points left which i guess would make a small BA buff

Re: Left over skill points

I never use mages, hate spawning cold ones and having corpses burst into icicles rather than being able to explode them, they also do crap damage even with an infinity.

You could always max bone spear to get the first kill to start the army, if not I usually dump my points into golem mastery and bone armor synergies.
