Left Clicking spells

When trying to pvp I had consecration aura on right click and blessed hammer on left click I found it hard though that I had to be close to them so I could target them start spamming it and by the time that happened I would be dead I found a vid on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RX7kp5tN8S4 of a paladin doing it but without having to target the enemy first. Can anyone explain to me how he does this? I tried hotkeys but all it did was switch to the spell. I hope someone understands what im asking. Thanks

I think it's done by holding the shift key while using a skill that normally needs a target. Works for normal attacks as well.

Hold Shift to stand in place and use your left-click skill.

Yep - That shift key is a wonder, I hate to think back on how long it took me to figure out how to use Whirlwind correctly. After I did I was experimenting around level one normal with that shift key and skills for a while.
