Basically, this genius tried to pass a $1,000,000 bill to buy $1675 worth of groceries at WalMart. WHen the cashier refused, she tried to buy all the items with two gift cards worth $2.32. When that didn't work, she again tried to pass the million dollar bill, this time asking for change for it!

    Unbelievable.

Of course, what really blows me away is that this doofus thought WalMart would have $998,325 dollars in cash laying around to give her in change! I have never, ever known a store to carry that much cash. Even most banks don't keep that much cash! She needs a trout beating for being an idiot.

Doubtful. Even if it was, ignorance of the law is no excuse.
And I still ask... if she has over a million dollars in her wallet, why would she be at WALMART???

Is ignorance of the law really no excuse in this country? There are just so many blue laws and the like...

...are we really expected to be fully competent lawyers with mastery over the federal and state laws that govern over us?

    That sounds ridiculous.

I'm not absolutely sure about the U.S., but I'm pretty close to being sure. I know for a fact that in the Canadian Criminal Code that ignorance of the law is not excuse. One is expected as a civic duty to know the laws of the land and to abide by them. There is mistake of fact and the like, but simply not knowing the law cannot be used as a defence. It's probably the same in the U.S.

I think that's absolutely ridiculous personally, but that's just my opinion. Unless you're trained (and most of us aren't), trying to trudge through the US legal code to find out what we can and can't do is a virtual impossibility. We sign so many contracts and agreements and whatnot that have so much legalese you can't be expected to read it any faster than it took a team of lawyers to write it.

How can ignorance of the law not be a defense? Bah.
