larzuk giving 3 sockets to shields?

just had a quick question about larzuking a crude paly shield. since its crude i heard that it wont get the full 4 sockets instead it will get 3 so you dont have to take the chance if cubing it to get 3. is this true? has anyone tested it?

If you normalize it (El + Chipped gem + low quality armor piece) it'll get an ilvl of 1.

Then Larzuk will punch 3 holes in it, not 4.

I know the Wiki says otherwise, but in this case it's incorrect.

hmmmm, dang what if you dont normalize it and leave it low quality? i dont want to risk losing the high resists of normalizing it cause for some reason that rerolls the natural modifiers.

and i guess if it gives it an item lvl of 1 you cant get very good modifiers eh?

yes thanks for the info

Know that when you use the normalise recipe, the automod on the shield will reroll too.

So since the ilvl becomes 1, does that preclude the chance of getting the higher automods?

I'm 90% sure that Larzuk will only give 2 sockets to a crude pally shield, the max for a low-quality item.

The sockets available to the low quality item should only be limited by it's ilvl, and not it's quality type. I ran some tests awhile ago for another thread (copy/paste):

To hopefully address all your questions about low quality, sockets and cubing:

- The recipe that takes a low quality item and makes it a normal item works with all "low quality" items, including crude, damaged, etc
- The recipe that takes a low quality item and makes it a normal item will set the new items ilvl to 1. This applies to both armors and weapons.
- If you socket a low quality item it'll get the maximum amount of sockets available to it by it's ilvl. That's to say that if you socket a crude thunder maul that has an ilvl of 60, it'll get 6 sockets.
- You cannot use the cube recipe to socket a low quality item. Only larzuk can socket a low quality item.
- If you take an already socketed low quality item and make it a normal item using the cube recipe, it'll lose it's sockets. Any items that were in the sockets will also be lost.
- If you use the cube recipe or larzuk to socket an item that has been "normalised" with the cube recipe, it'll get the amount of sockets available to it at ilvl 1 (Since it'll have an ilvl of 1)

Pally shields are a bit different that other staffmodded items. Their automods are related to affix level, which depends on both item level and quality level (what base item it is).

@Insane Wayne: Orphan is right. Item quaility has no effect on Larzuk socketing.
