Laptop related questions

Alright, I'm back with more laptop related questions. I have set my sights on this laptop: http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en&section=1&group=1&product=8410&part=8718#spectop

Basically, it's a 14.1" Toshiba laptop. 2ghz dual core 800mhz fsb 2mb cache, 4gb ddr2 ram, radeon mobility 3470 (256mb w/ hypermemory?). Nowhere on the ATI's site can I find any mension of the 3470 having hypermemory. And to my understanding, this is technology that allows the video card to use both discrete memory and RAM on the motherboard. Now how effective is this? I have a feeling it's more of a cost cutting feature than a performance thing, and I am skeptical about its potential performance. Will this card be able to play SC2 when it comes out? I have a feeling that it won't be enough. Here's a link to ATI's site: http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonhd3400/index.html

What I'm really looking for in a laptop is all the standard stuff, dual core with plenty of ram, but also able to play SC2. I don't really care about all the other new games. I haven't been able to find a good laptop for a good price that can fit this requirement. Oh and strangely, I'd like my laptop to have bluetooth.

I've been looking on Newegg and I saw this model: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220389
The specs are amazing and the price is decent but it's been said that it has issues with its keyboard.

Really, I'm at a loss. I can't find a laptop that fits my requirements perfectly. Basically, a dual core processor, plenty of ram, 14.1" screen, bluetooth, a 512mb video card(can probably handle sc2 with that) at a price around 1,000 CDN. If anyone has any laptop model suggestions, that'd be great.

I'm just a casual gamer. This laptop will accompany me in my post secondary education.

I might be mistaken as I'm not hardware expert, but a graphics card with 512mb and able to handle SC2 (of which we have no reqs yet) would likely be too big to put into a laptop that is only 14.1". I imagine such a machine would have some heating issues.

Re: Laptop related questions

I'm pretty certain that 512mb video cards, and even 1GB cards, fair fine in a 14.1" laptop. As for heating, I've heard that it's not really an issue but I don't have first hand experience to vouch for this. The ASUS laptop I linked to above actually has a 1GB card.

Also, I've checked most of the major sites, NCIX, Canada Computers, Newegg, Tigerdirect (which is horrible, in my opinion), etc.

Fair enough. I had a gaming notebook a few years back that had a 512mb video card, 2 GB RAM, etc. and it was a MONSTER. The thing weighed over 12lbs and threw out a tremendous amount of heat. I'm sure technology has improved since then, though. Good luck to you.

I have a Dell D610 that is about 3.5 years old. It heats up like crazy whenever I play games on it. To the point where I had to get a cooling fan to rest it on in order to use it for gaming.

My dad's laptop can handle games like warcraft and it gets hot playing those games, but not to the point where I have to take it off my lap. I don't really think heat will be an issue
