Ladder or not?

Hey, welcome to the forums,
Maybe it's just me, but ladder seems to be alot cleaner than non-ladder (in terms of items and what-not).
Also, on ladder you have access to certain items that cannot drop on non-ladder (such as tomb reaver, or tyraels might). All the new runewords can't be created on non-ladder either. Finally, there's cube recipes that can only be used on ladder as well (such as upgrading an exceptional item to it's elite equivilent)
I'd go with the ladder character

Well, when a ladder season ends, all ladder characters get transferred to non-ladder (items and everything). Anyone who wishes to play a ladder character at that point would need to start over again, from level 1, with no items. They would need to rebuild their item database and what-not.ldee187 said:

This is not to say that you don't get much time with your ladder characters. Ladder seasons last quite a long time, and there's plenty of time for you to get a bunch of high level characters, and get some of the best items in the game (alot of people already have). It's all about motivation, I guess.
If your about to go on the realms for the first time, I would recommend starting on ladder. When this season ends, the worst that can happen is your characters would be converted to non-ladder (like the rest of the ladder community) and you can continue playing non-ladder if you wish. Of course, you can also start a ladder character again, if you feel like starting from scratch with the rest of us
.As a note, no-one knows when the current ladder season will end. Blizzard will usually give a fair amount of time warning (about a month, I believe) when they decide to reset the ladder, but I don't really see it happening anytime soon.

jeez i earn 10+ hi runes a week on non-lad...u can make godly chars far easier (but that doesnt mean u can get hi runes rly easy on non-lad, its still rather hard to begin with...)
i played first ladder season, it wasnt bad but then when it ended i came to and have stayed non-ladder

altho, since u will just end up in non-lad anyway, i guess you could play lad for now...
oh and one more thing, many ppl think that ladder is 100% legit...WRONG
it hasnt been going for anywhere near as long as non-ladder...so of course there are LESS DUPES, but items are still duped...espeicially high runes
just gotta take one look on eBay to see wat is being duped!
I'd say if you're just starting out, go for Ladder.
A lot of people play non-ladder because they already have all their characters made on there and didn't feel like starting over, just like some people liked the challenge of starting over brand new on Ladder. Everyone has their own reasons for liking what they like, but I'm not about to get into a big ladder vs. non debate.

Main difference is that on non-ladder 99,9% of 1.08 items which are worth having compared to ladder only items or their 1.10 counterparts are dupes while on ladder you can actually get the legit items which can't be found on non-ladder. Favouring non-ladder because there are dupes more easily available is just plain stupid.Sh4dovv said:

Would just like to point out that apart from ladder-only items, there are also upgrade recipies that are available only on ladder. IIRC upgrading exceptional uniqes to elite versions only work on ladder, as well as upgrading runes from Dol and upward.
In short, ladder offer more possibilites at the cost of having to start from scratch every ladder reset. Some enjoy this and some don't. You just have to decide to which category you belong.

I play Non-Ladder only due to having all my characters already there. I'm not a "purist" and I do twink and with all the gear I've garnered on NL over the years I've played, Ladder just didnt seem the way to go. I also missed the reset (took some time off) and figured it was a moot point to switch.
Now IF I was starting anew, I'd probably go ladder due to the "extras" mentioned above. I'm still a bit disappointed that they offered the "new" stuff for Ladder-Only, hopefully when the next reset happens they will allow NL the new options and gear.
