Kitchens in the church?

I think what he's saying here is that you shouldn't come to the house of God and eat and drink while other people in the church don't eat. I'm not very good at interpertating Biblical passages so if I have it wrong, correct me.

This doesn't say you can't have a kitchen or you can't eat in the church it is just saying to not let other church goers go hungry while you eat your fill.
I think that is a section where Paul was angry at the Corintians with their cellebrations of passover and communion... They weren't treating it like a time for remembering Jesus, and they weren't respectful of God in it, instead they were partying and getting drunk etc.

I think that your friends are probably getting this from the books of the law in the old testament. If they are, then tell them to follow ALL of the old Hebrew law...

Yeah, that's the one. As you noticed, if you read the entire thing the message isn't condemning eating in churches at all. However, try reading just a couple lines out of context, namely 11:22 and 34. Those two lines, when taken alone, pretty much say that you should be eating at home. And some people use that as an argument that kitchens should not exist in churches.

It's pretty weak reasoning in my opinion, but oh well. I don't know off the top of my head of any other cases where eating and drinking in churches is mentioned in the Bible, so I figure that that's probably where your friends got the idea.

I had a long chat with my dad about it last night and this is what he told me.

he said that the churches were having lots of pot lucks and the such and all the rich people and the poor people would go. The rich people that had food were still eating all the food at the potluck while the poor people wouldn't get as much. So eventually the poor people said hey wait a second I haven't eating in 2 days and you eat 3 or 4 meals a day. I want and need food too. So Paul was telling the rich people to give up their meals at the pot luck so the poor people can eat.

I hope I said that right, we talked about a lot of things last night(the other things my crack friends thing) and it's kinda hazy.
