Killing Baal causes game to crash

What is going on? I am killing Normal Baal with my Fury/Rabies Druid and every time I kill him (shortly after he does his death animation and drops his items), the game crashes out to Windows with an "exception error." Something about a "incorrect assertion, a "missile firing too far" or something like that. It's happened twice now, in exactly the same manner.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Do I need to be in human form when he dies or something like that?

Try and see if getting a new map will help.

Ive gotten the assertion error randomly during gameplay - I think it happens when your vid card is too stressed out - although mine is a top of the line nVidia. Game freezes and I have to hit the Win button to see a Win popup box on the desktop say

    Assertion Failure
    Location: C:\Projects\Diablo2\Source\D2Win\Src\D2Comp.cpp. line #3058
Expresssion: eType <= ptItem Types Tbl->nSize

Update your video card drivers - done.
what that means - I dunno.
how to fix - I dunno.

question are you playing in directdraw?

    if not switch to it.
diablo 2 was optimized for the 3dfx cards so switching to directdraw is a good idea.

I was just doing Nmare baal runs in party and I got a fresh new error ...

"Title: Game.exe - Unable To Locate Component

This application has failed to start because binkw32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem", and after I press OK this appears:

"Title: Diablo II Error - Halt
    Location: D2Gfx\Scr\D2gfx.cpp, line # 155
    Expression: Can't find DLL: D2Direct3D.dll"

... and this makes it 2(?!) errors in 1 strike:mad:.

Edit: I did a restart too... no efect.

i would suggest you run spybot search and destroy and adaware se from safe mode. you should also run a full virus sweep at the same time... dune

Erm.. Game.exe is part of the Diablo 2 install... its supposed to be there... I thought ....

That virus just named itself to something common... Game.exe

If you run a search for game.exe, using windows file search(start button, search..) and find game.exe anywhere other than Diablo 2 folder, then Id worry.

I just had to reinstall the game to make it work, and I did an F3 search which showed me only the "game.exe" from d2 and a couple more game.exe from other games. Guess It really wsn't any virus but about the two erors ... The first one said that "binkw32.dll" was not found which turned out to be correct before I reinstalled, but "D2Direct3D.dll" still existed. I donno how "bink32.dll" could have just dissapeared like that:scratch:.
