Keeping iron golem alive

Hi,

any ideas how to keep iron golem alive through iron maiden?

I've started using insights (any really, the crappier the better) and really cannot live without anymore.

I've tried townportaling and cleansing through vendors and being extra careful and teleporting away until i get new curse to replace iron maiden.

Would it help if I make the golems out of the least damage insights, so it wouldnt hit so hard? I really don't need Iron Golems damage, only the aura...

Oh yes, playing skelliemancer with 1 point to iron golem and 1 point to golem mastery. Lvl85 with 14 points to spare, but not sure where should I put them.

I make my insight golems out of the least damaging pole I can find, plus I pumped every extra point into golem mastery so he has very high life.

I avoid IM in my MF exploits. I dont do chaos runs, and when getting organsets I use my zon for the furnace of pain.

If you must venture where IM is going to be cast on your guys, it definately helps to use very low damaging poles, and pumping golem mastery. Also, hunt for skill shrines and if you have a friend, tell him to get his barb and use battle command for the extra skills before making the golem.

Actually, the golem is recast at the beginning of each game. So getting a friendly barb before creating the golem only helps in that very game.
However, if you have a precious iron golem, you should always leave games with the weapon switch activated that gives you most +golem/golem mastery/summon skills.

Is this confirmed ?

I thought it only matter what you wore when you actually raised the IG...?

I've started to make IGs out of "Insight" Voulges. Like you mention, the crappier the better, so I have less regret making golems out of them. If you've got your other bases covered (RS, SM, CE), you could consider investing those extra points into Golem Mastery if you feel you don't have other useful skills to max. My Fishymancer is Level 86 now and had 3 extra points and I invested them into Golem Mastery because I already finished maxing RS, SM, CE, and Magi. All future points will go toward Golem Mastery.

One more option is that you could try to find yourself a +3 Golem Mastery Necro head, make it into a "Splendor" for +1 more skills, and have a +4 to Golem twink item. Have this on switch or equip it before you leave games, so that as soon as you enter new games and have all your prebuff gear on, your IG will receive a major +skills boost and have more life. (Remember that IG is "cast" every time you enter a new game, so he'll take his current bonuses from whatever you have on at that time.)

Thanks m8.

That blows. Go through all the trouble of finding extra skills and the damned game recasts him at a lower level.

haha seriously. This is good to know I definitely have taken a few minutes every time I cast my insight IG to get all my +skill charms/gear on, oooh well..

and to the OP, how often is your IG dying? I have ~10 hard points into IG right now and do all sorts of runs, though no chaos to try out IM yet, just because...But he has only come close to dying once in a room of WSK with 20394 of the little magic ball shooting fellers, and even then his life went down so slow by the time everything was dead he was at like 1/3 but had no real chance of dying. The only time he dies is when I do(I get cocky sometimes with where I can teleport to and stop to tank...) But I have found NM pit runs to be amazing for 4os crappy polearms. Literally one per run is a pretty good %age if you ask me.

Well before writing this thread I had 2 die on me in like 4 hours... The one I made after that has survived since. I have 4 insights on a mule at the moment, so I'm covered for now.

I really want to run chaos sanctuary and places like that, so I will just have to invest more points to mastery or IG and start prebuffing when joining games. Its just so annoying, I already have hoto/aokl on switch, so I'd need another weapon somewhere.. and I was considering about testing beast...

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I'll try out the things mentioned, but knowing my sometimes a tad twichy playstyle and tendency to get careless due my army sweeping the floors on hell monsters I think I'll be doing quite some NM pit runs then ;)
