Just saying hello to everyone!

Hi, i'm new to both the game and the forums, started a mere day or two ago, just thought i'd pop in and say hello!
I'm sure we'll get along just fine, and i'll try to be as active here as possible

On another note, can anyone recommend a nice class and build for a beginner? I did some research and i figured a summoning necromancer would be easy... But from WoW tbc i know that sitting back and letting your minion do the work for you isn't my game (oh god s2 and 3 demonology warlock with a resto druid... don't get me started...). So something a bit more active, melee or ranged isn't really important, kiting isn't my favorite tactic either... If no one can think of anything i suppose ill have to resort to the summoner for now, thanks in advance

Re: Just saying hello to everyone!

Welcome! A Meteorb sorceress is fairly item independent, and can do a very good job throughout the game. Having an innate teleport skill is very useful. I'm sure there is a guide stickied in the Sorceress forum.

A pure Blizzard sorc is a very good first character, as she can be used to magic find for items at Mephisto, Pindleskin, and the Ancient Tunnels. Her primary problem is dealing with cold immunes (although there aren't any in the Ancient Tunnels, making it prime hunting ground for a blizzsorc), and you'll find yourself relying on your mercenary or other party members to kill CI's. Or, if you're like me, you just teleport away from most CI's.

Have a look the beginner's guide stickied in this forum.

I second the meteorb. I've restarted three times and always used a meteorb.

Hi Back at ya!

Welcome to the forums!

If your just starting pretty much any class/character/build will do; that's the beauty of this site - all the tough work has been done about how to build a particular character. They are easy to find and I see you have already been checking them out.

The thing I've figured out (in years of play) is most build are fine through Norm & Nightmare - it's when you hit Hell that your character will show it's weaknesses in build and gear.

On to playing - I actually enjoy playing a strafer/cold Zon. Easy build; you can play un-twinked fairly easy until Hell. A good learner build as a stand-off player. The other easy build I like is a Pali - fanatic/zealot. Again and easy melee character with only a few glitches (Iron Maiden enemys) but of course can be rough without the right gear in Hell.

The Fishymancer is a great way to go and you actually do cast quite a bit of spells to keep your army going plus slinging in curses - but it is purely stand-off (even the Bone/summoner variant which is a fave of mine).

For surviving and ease of MF'ing the Sorc (as stated above) is the tops. You will need to be careful once you make NM and of course Hell and remember what baddie is immune to what; but that comes easily with a bit of play. I've also enjoyed playing the MeteOrb and the BlizBaller style sorc's.

My best advice is to read as much as you can here and jump in and have fun - I've messed up many a build/character but in the long run (since i play on B-Net) they are now a mule which is also something needed

Picked a meteorb since it seemed like fun :) thx a lot for the advice!
i'm having quite a hard time dealing with just about anything at the moment though, early 60s in hell, i suppose time will sort that :)

Yes, you will find dealing with Hell alone difficult at that level. Personally, I don't leave Nightmare until I reach at least level 75.
