Just A Friendly Reminder

To everyone to back up your characters!!!

Looks to me that recently a few people(including me) have been having some trouble with the harddrives. So make those backups!

I used to have 4 backup sources... they all died out and I failed to replenish them. Don't make that mistake!

So back them up on a disc, personal webspace, or otherwise and have fun!

I bet you wish someone had given you that advice a week ago, eh? To add to your advice, also back up your ATMA stashes; I know that my stashes contain much more valuable items than my characters. I had just backed up all of mine when you posted about your troubles with HDD, but thanks for the reminder!

Speaking of which, how does one back up ATMA stashes? What files do you need to copy?

Just copy the stash file. Those are the .d2x files. You can backup the .org files as well, if you want those back up files.

The best way to back up character files, for me, since I do not have a USB drive, is to copy them to a CD. But do not close the CD, just close the session. Easy CD creator, and other burning software has that option in the set up options. Then you can keep adding your save folder to it. Rename it by adding the date when burning. That way, if you need to use it, just choose the one with the latest date.

I imangine you could fit a few hundred save folders on one CD.

I don't know how many times I've said "I need to backup my files" and then promptly forgot to do anything.

I don't have as much to lose as most here but I'm taking a lesson from Serdashs loss. All stashes, characters and .org files now safely backed onto a second system.

I did happen to find an old disk with some old old 1.09 backups on them.

Not the best, but my resignation might be a bit more short-lived than I thought.

But all of that will be AFTER my senior project is rebuilt from the ground up.
