    John Paul II has passed

Just across the wire--Pope John Paul II has finally passed away.

As a semi-Catholic and someone who was raised as a member of the Church, I feel that while this is indeed a loss, this man has fought long and hard to continue his ministry and is now enjoying a well-deserved rest. I hope he finds peace and comfort with God.

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently someone at an Italian News service has a sense of humor. He's apparently still kicking. This man is a fighter.

Fox just came out and took it back, and CNN.com has taken down their headline on it. Apparently his brain and heart are still functioning. I'd imagine, however, that it's only a matter of hours before he passes on.

The Italian news media is all over it. But the Vatican has not yet confirmed it.

He did a lot of good for people all over the world. Atheist or catholic, you have to admire the man for his deeds and the influence he has had on many of us. I, too, am glad he has finally found rest. He deserves it.

Agreed, Dacar. Truly a man with no ill will towards anyone in his heart, and a man who did a lot for humanity as well as the Catholic faith.

Random fact I heard about him the other day--he has been seen in person by more human beings than any one person in the history of this planet. Kinda dumbfounding.

This is not fake. Just checked it out at CNN.com.

As a former Catholic I hope that, should Pope John Paul II's remaining time on earth prove short, the next Pope will at least have the honor and dignity of Pope John Paul II.

I also hope that the Roman Catholic Church begin to open its doors to other faiths, and make Christianity a religion for all.

And because of the pope's untimely death, Blizzard has announced it will release tonight "Diablo 3: The Quest for a New Pope" solely in Italy to distract the population from rioting- Go Italy!

The Vatican just denied the reports of his death.

Edit : Allthough the Vatican has said that there is no hope for his condition.

Allow me to be so presumptuous as to ask that we keep poor taste out of this thread. Do not dishonor this man's life and legacy with your lack of taste or respect.

What do you expect but tastelessness? Lots of fanatically anti-religion people in here. Lets hope they have the sense to be respectful of the dying.

One must wonder, what will the guy standing next to the Pope in line outside the Pearly gates do when he realizes it's the Pope next to him? Kinda puts some extra pressure when Saint Peter looks at your life, knowing the Pope is right behind you and he's a lock.

Do you really think they are in lines there?

Who knows? The only things anybody can know is Saint Peter is sitting there and the Marines are guarding the gates.

He has been dead for the last 5 years. If you look carefully you can see the strings attached to his limbs to make him move (though the one who pulls the stringas has been a bit lazy lately)

From my point of view he has been "dead" for the last couple of years in terms of health and such.

No disrespect was meant by that. I respect a guy that can mumble that many languages.
